I finnaly got to drive my truck today. I have had alot of T Maxx trucks.... over 20 of them, big and small blocks, off road, flat track, forward only light weight 2.5 trucks... you name it.
This new Axxociated truck is without a doubt the best truck I have ever owned, or driven.
It has rained for 3 days straight since it arrived in the mail... So, for 3 days I have been working on it, tweaking it to my liking... or at least trying to get everything set up just the way I want it.
First off- I installed a new Futaba Corless ball bearing, metal gear steering servo, and an Air Tronics throttle servo. I also plugged the power supply into the aux port on the reciever to get the full 6 volts to the servos.
I installed a Trinity NMHD 6 volt battery pack in the battery box. It fit without any issues, and plugged into the stock wiring harness.
Next, I tweaked the brake linkage to get as much braking power as I could. With the new Airtronics servo, and my linkage set up, the truck is capeable of locking all 4 wheels on asphault if you push the brakes hard enough. The brakes are AWESOME.
I found that the stock wheel hex nuts are the same as Traxxas hex's from the T Maxx, so I opted for the light weight plastic T Maxx hex's instead of the heavy steel ones that come with the GT. $5.00 for all 4 and they came with spare exle pins.:shhh:
....then, off came the stock plastic shocks, and on when a brand new set of Hardbody threaded aluminum shocks. They were actually made for a T Maxx, but they fit the MGT nicely. I ended up using the stock MGT springs, and spring retainers because the springs that came with the shocks weren't stround enough.
....then, I made my own front sway bar out of .072" steel wire. I drilled two holes in the front skid plate, pushed the wire through, and fitted the sway bar ends to fit into the inward shock mounting holes in the lower A Arms. It works really well.... The truck still has its full suspension travel, but is able to lay flat in tight turns without rolling over.
Last but not least.... I pulled the engine apart, and knife edged the leading edge of the counter balance weight of the crank, and "turbo ported" the crank, and I also made 2 notches in the back plate where it was shrouding 2 of the intake ports in the crank case.
After it idled through 1 tank of fuel, I drove it around in my garage testing out reverse and the braking system for another tank and a half.....
Then today- I finally got to drive it outside. It took 1/2 tank of fuel to get it warmed up, because the carb is still set to break in settings.... But once it warmed up to about 180, I started making some fast passes back and forth untill it shifted into high gear a few times. Once it got up to about 185-190, I stopped the truck on pavement and pegged the throttle..... It stood right up on the rear bumper!!! I haven't even started leaningn it out yet.
The stock gearing seems to be just fine, as it would run faster than I could control it in high gear, (at least on pavement) My buddy and I bought trucks the same week, and we are planning a little heads up side by side shootout between his stocker, and my ported AE.21.
This is without a doubt, the finest RTR Monster truck on the market.... bar none IMO.
Now, will someone PLEASE start making stock size tires with a step pin tread for this truck!!!!!?????
:ahh: Thanks AE for an AWESOME TRUCK!
