I finnaly got to drive my truck today. I have had alot of T Maxx trucks.... over 20 of them, big and small blocks, off road, flat track, forward only light weight 2.5 trucks... you name it.

This new Axxociated truck is without a doubt the best truck I have ever owned, or driven.

It has rained for 3 days straight since it arrived in the mail... So, for 3 days I have been working on it, tweaking it to my liking... or at least trying to get everything set up just the way I want it.

First off- I installed a new Futaba Corless ball bearing, metal gear steering servo, and an Air Tronics throttle servo. I also plugged the power supply into the aux port on the reciever to get the full 6 volts to the servos.

I installed a Trinity NMHD 6 volt battery pack in the battery box. It fit without any issues, and plugged into the stock wiring harness.

Next, I tweaked the brake linkage to get as much braking power as I could. With the new Airtronics servo, and my linkage set up, the truck is capeable of locking all 4 wheels on asphault if you push the brakes hard enough. The brakes are AWESOME.

I found that the stock wheel hex nuts are the same as Traxxas hex's from the T Maxx, so I opted for the light weight plastic T Maxx hex's instead of the heavy steel ones that come with the GT. $5.00 for all 4 and they came with spare exle pins.:shhh:

....then, off came the stock plastic shocks, and on when a brand new set of Hardbody threaded aluminum shocks. They were actually made for a T Maxx, but they fit the MGT nicely. I ended up using the stock MGT springs, and spring retainers because the springs that came with the shocks weren't stround enough.

....then, I made my own front sway bar out of .072" steel wire. I drilled two holes in the front skid plate, pushed the wire through, and fitted the sway bar ends to fit into the inward shock mounting holes in the lower A Arms. It works really well.... The truck still has its full suspension travel, but is able to lay flat in tight turns without rolling over.

Last but not least.... I pulled the engine apart, and knife edged the leading edge of the counter balance weight of the crank, and "turbo ported" the crank, and I also made 2 notches in the back plate where it was shrouding 2 of the intake ports in the crank case.

After it idled through 1 tank of fuel, I drove it around in my garage testing out reverse and the braking system for another tank and a half.....

Then today- I finally got to drive it outside. It took 1/2 tank of fuel to get it warmed up, because the carb is still set to break in settings.... But once it warmed up to about 180, I started making some fast passes back and forth untill it shifted into high gear a few times. Once it got up to about 185-190, I stopped the truck on pavement and pegged the throttle..... It stood right up on the rear bumper!!! I haven't even started leaningn it out yet.

The stock gearing seems to be just fine, as it would run faster than I could control it in high gear, (at least on pavement) My buddy and I bought trucks the same week, and we are planning a little heads up side by side shootout between his stocker, and my ported AE.21.

This is without a doubt, the finest RTR Monster truck on the market.... bar none IMO.

Now, will someone PLEASE start making stock size tires with a step pin tread for this truck!!!!!?????

:ahh: Thanks AE for an AWESOME TRUCK!

matty-

I really can't answer that, because I haven't run this truck next to a 2.5 T Maxx. There is no doubt in my mind it will run right with one though. My buddies stocker will keep up with my fwd only 2.5 truck, and that was before we knew the trim was turned back on his controller.... Plus he was running it on some cheap 15% from Hobby Town.

The MGT makes the T Maxx look like a Radio Shack special.

I am glad to hear there are more MGT owners like myself. Hey Bill can you show me how you modded your .21 engine. My doesn't do wheelies. Did you follow the 6 1/2 turns out for the LSN ets for the break in settings?

I didn't bother to take any pics of the crank and back plate while I had it aprart Jon, sorry. Next time I have it apart, I can take some pics and post them on here if anyone is interested.

I just got done porting my buddies AE .21. We ran heads up today, and his truck had 15/49 gear ratio to my stock 15/52 ratio...

My truck not only accelerated better, but also ran more mph, as it was pulling away from his truck in high gear. Both trucks were stock with stock tires and wheels... everything the same but the gearing and the port work.

We are putting his truck back together right now to test it after the port work...

Hey I am totally interested in the Port work. I want to try that for myself. Let me know when you can so I can try it on my mill if I am daring enough!! I am having a buddy of mine do some custom fab on my gt so I can get the aluminum skid plates mad cheaper than to have to buy them for 30-45 bucks a pop. That will also include a new type bumper to mount on instead of the crappy easy to break AE ones. I mean come on those are so cheesy but then again it was fun breakin them. Jon

Thats cool Jon. The next time I have it out, I can send you some pics. Post an e mail address, and I'll send them to you when I have them.

We just finished bashing my buddies truck through 3 tanks of fuel...... His truck has stock shocks, and shock oil, and it doesn't hook up nearly as well as mine does... It also shifts into high gear almost instantly. Running it that way glazes the clutch shoes and they wont lock up as well.

We fired his engine with the roto start, let it idle for about 15 seconds, drove it around the yard a few times to warm it up, then stopped and pegged the throttle.... It went right up on the bumper. It only did it 2-3 times because the clutch shoes got hot and it would just slip the clutch instead of lifting the front end.

I'm really impressed with the stock engine. All they really need is a little port work, and the pinch pin on the carb sealed with silicone.

Those pinch pins create a vacuum leak, and you have to fatten up the low side mixture to compensate. They end up with an irratic idle, and a dramatic decrease in low end torque.

I haven't done everything I wanted to do to the cranks yet, because I don't have the right carbide cutter to do all of it. The carnk case could use some work just below the carb also, but to do that, I have to remove the crank bearings.... I'm too lazy to do all that right now.:burp:

Now all I need to do is find someone close to home with another MGT with a new Ofna Picco .26 and see whats up.
