Hey I am new here and I just bought an MBX5T Prospec and pretty much finished building it today. I am thinking about buying a Ninja 21 for the motor (is this a good choice?). Anyways, is it common for the spur gear to hit the carbon fiber radio tray? It has an indentation/slot for it but my spur is still rubbing and it is only the stock 46t. Also did it take anyone else 3 hours to get the screws holding the gear into the diff cups in?

Thanks,
Jacob

Welcome first off. I have seen a couple that the spur hits the tray. Mine is close on my 5T and it looks like it may have knicked it once but after maybe 17 gallons it's been fine. I also run the 5R without issue. In case you are wondering the 48T option spur is the same diameter as the 46T, weird I know but there's no worry about it being bigger. As for the screws, new dif cups are like that but the important thing is not to over-tighten them. I actually use 3x10 or 3x12 screws instead of the 3x8's. It helps prevent them from loosening up and causing the dif to leak. I also Mobil 1 sythetic grease on the outdrive where they go into the dif, again to prevent leakage. The one downfall with the Mugen is the difs can leak if you don't build them right.

I also have that truggy,on my 2nd one,I have ran the ninja in it also and it was good,I like the osvspec alot better, run time is nuts and the power is off the scale, also the price will help you decide,I also have ran a rbc6 and it worked very well,do not try and run anything bigger than a 21 its just over kill for such a lite truggy...good luck lets see pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I forgot, I have a modded Ninja I run at bigger events and big tracks. It's a good motor with crazy power and decent mileage. I run a stock v-spec for club racing it it does really well. I also have a modded v-spec that I picked up cheap, and to be honest I see no difference between my modded v-spec and stocker.

The diff I see from the eb modd vspec I have and the stock vspec is run time....both rip ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would get a vspec but i heard you had to change the bearings and i really dont want to mess with that and i know i could buy a modded one but why not just get a ninja? i also heard that the 053 pipe and this mill are a perfect combo so i think I'm gonna go with that. lol i fixed the spur gear problem by just taking everything off and and putting it back on while pulling the radio tray away from the center diff so now i have like a .2mm gap so i guess that works. i will post pics once i get my tierods adjusted right.

thanks for the help!

EDIT: also i saw someone who got 12 gallons out of a ninja 21 lol i dont know how that is even possible...... does anyone know the best/cheapest place to buy a ninja? they 285 on amain and 310 on ebay

Get a 07 or newer Vspec, the bearing issue has been resolved there's a slight mod done to the case.

Rolex, I bought it used but almost new, the guy thought he maybe had 2 gallons on it. I know I've run about 15 through it since I got it. I have a couple different mills that I run depending on the race. I launched a stock Vpsec with about 9 gallons on it this summer, rod cracked the case because of play on the crank pin. She just took me to second again today at Winterfest Warmup race here locally.

I would go with the vspec over the ninja any day, trust me I have had both and the nija just dont have the pop needed...its super smooth but is just missing some....my .02
