Long story short, my old laptop (almost five years old) is on it's last legs. It's physically falling apart in places, and starting to have hardware limitations and intermittent issues. I've been researching for a few weeks now, and I'm on the fence about buying a Macbook Pro. Reason being, 90% of my home PC use is for photo and video editing and they have software out of the box that would suit most of my needs if not all of them. I could buy a Windows based lappy a good deal cheaper, but by the time I buy photo and video editing software the price is pretty close if I match up hardware specs. There are other things that appeal to me about a mac as well that I've seen them put though, or noticed when messing with them, but mainly it's the editing capability.

So, any Mac guys here? If so, have you been happy with your purchase?

I would take a look at Sony s series laptops before you take the leap. I've had a z series for 6 years straight and am still able to run any program that I choose to include 3d design, photo editing, video editing suffers a bit now (1.8 duo). To top it off my Sony is a tough sob. I traveled to 12 different countries in the military with it and its still kicking.....but I will admit that its about to kick the bucket.

If you're dead set on a Mac though I find them pretty easy to use and all but I'm still not a fan of being stuck with apple as a brand. That's my main complaint about Mac.

I have used Macs and they do have some good editing software. Unfortunately, I'm also one of those who think that the OSX machines are "dumbed" down. What I mean by that statement is that you can only do things one way. There is also a smaller selection of other software compared to PCs. That can be overcome by using Bootcamp or Parallels. I'm also looking at a new laptop and am leaning towards a VooDoo gaming laptop because it has more power under the hood to transcode video.

I'm sort of set on a Mac, but still open to suggestions though. I don't game at all, just my sim and that's it, and it ran great on a 128mb shared card. Hamz I understand what you're saying about having to do things the Apple way, and I'm sure I won't like some of that at times. But the ease of use for photo / video editing (I've played around with them) is a huge plus for me. I messed around with photoshop for a bit, and the user interface is horrible IMHO.

I will be running parallels most likely for a windows solution for a VPN connection for my work. Other than that, I can't think of anything specific I'll have to have Windows for, but it's there if need be.
