Hi A4drvr!

Amen to that brother!
But lets not be too harsh. Young budding audiophiles need encouragement.
Here is the thing.

YOU NEED TO GO OUT AND LISTEN TO EVERY PAIR OF SPEAKERS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND DETERMINE FOR YOURSELF WHAT SOUNDS BEST TO YOU.

After doing that, you now know what speakers sound the best.

Your opinion is the only one that counts.

Happy listening!!!!!!!

Hey Electrostatic,

My int aube amp is a local China brand call "Mei Xing", I'm sure they're available on the other side of the planet (I'm in HK) with a different name.

I have considered switching to a better setup with a Pre-Amp + 300B Mono blocks. BOY!! Does the 300B sound sweet!! I still remember the first time I heard the 300Bs, I could believe the details and sweetness I was hearing.

As for listening to EVERY pair of system you can is very true, infact, that's how I learned all the ins and outs of audiophiles. Auditions of different brands, types are also the fun part of the audio hobby. Just like building up your ride in the RC hobby.....just plug and play with no mods and no dirty-hands is no fun!

Anyways, back on topic with the REVO.....I hope I'm picking one up real soon......
:)

Cheers~

Well, duhhhh. I see what I was doing wrong. I actually got advice off of this forum to put the FS between the Rx and the Optidrive. This would cause the problem I noted. Got it now, though!!! Thanks again.

Crunch:

Which model do you have? The MC88-C or the MC368-B?

How much can you get a pair of TJ mesh plate 300b tubes for over there in HK?
Those are my favorite 300b tubes.
How much do they cost there? In the USA they cost $300 or more.

Hey Electrostatic,

I have the export version of the 368B, It has 4 12AU7 and 1 12AX7 with 4 KT88.

I'm not sure about the TJ tubes prices, but I've been to the shop which carries them, I can make a quick call tomorrow and find out the prices for ya. I'm sure they're cheaper in HK then the US.

I hear that alot no highs not low must be BOSE where do people get that it is the most respected name in sound and most of their stuff can shake a room with the best of them, but if you can only afford sony than i guess thats an excuse.

well that's not true at all Bose is an R&D company and 100% of profit goes back in R&D not advertising. Most people don't know the whole story just what some best buy sales person tells them. Amar Bose read up.

you guys make me miss my old roomate...he was a Audiophile and I could use his system and I bought all these punk records and love to listen to them but I have a 100 dollar record player and it is actually played through some crappy speakers and I just don't use them anymore cause it just dosen't sound they same......what do you guys listen to on your 6 figure stereo systems?

The purpose of a “high end” audiophile system is to faithfully reproduce the recorded sound. You can listen to anything you want. Any noise, any style of music, any instrument, anything that was recorded earlier and that you are now trying to play back at a later date. The point is you want it to sound as much like the original sound as possible.
For me, I listen to all types of music except Rap-Hip Hop, or Country. Everything else is great. One good example of what I have in my CD player at the moment is Roger Waters. I love his music with Pink Floyd and after he went solo. Those are all great recordings. He really cares about sound quality as well as the music.
As far as recorded formats or media, I listen to stuff on SACD, HDCD, regular CDs and Records (vinyl). Records are great because the sound is not converted into digital so it sounds better. The best would be to listen to the original master tape on a great player from Nagra.

Back to Bose. They absolutely do put their money into advertising and sales. That’s how they keep getting people to buy their stuff. Its not like most people do any research into what actually sounds good or go out and listen to a variety of different speakers from well-respected manufacturers. They don’t read Stereo magazines and they don’t ask sound engineers what speakers they use. Nope, they go to the mall or some mega store and buy whatever is the well known name brand with the most advertising and the high price, which they mistakenly think means it must be better. If Bose did put so much money into R&D, then maybe they would have come up with something that sounds better and was well designed instead of focusing solely on convenience and W.A.F. (Wife Acceptance Factor).

Other companies that you may not have ever heard of such as American Technology Corporation are doing the real research and advancements in Audio reproduction.
The reality is that all the technology out there today has been around for a very long time. For example, researchers at Bell labs invented electrostatic speaker technology in the early 1900s. The funny thing is that it’s still considered exotic today. Companies like B&W, Avalon, and others are focusing on small improvements to existing technologies such as developing diamond coated tweeters. Other companies are using Beryllium. Companies use everything from Paper to Kevlar in speaker cones trying to improve the overall sound but the technology for an electromagnetic motor and cone speaker (speaker driver) is just as old as the electrostatic speakers. It’s just like Cars. Same technology today as there was a hundred years ago but with small improvements now and then and a whole lot of marketing and propaganda to keep you buying the new models.

People just buy what they are told is the best or is “POPULAR”. Humans are a social animal and easy to manipulate through psychological and sociological methods.
Your Government does it to you and companies do it to you. Most everything you think you like or want is dictated to you through a combination of animal instinct and social conditioning.
Ah, but I’m so off topic now. Maybe I’ll just let you wonder why the RC car companies love us using these car forums and why some even host them. Are you more excited about buying more RC products when you get to read other people telling you about how great they are?
Ha ha.
Sorry I type too much.

Electro:

My dad got me into high end electronics and for awhile I only bought certain items. Lafayette Radio Co. had stores here and sold numerous advanced items. I remember the first Philips turntables, Quadra sound (early surround sound) and for my first set of speakers in 1978 I bought Infinity Reference speakers. Nobody heard of them before that. Great little speakers. Now, Infinity has become very commercialized and most of their stuff is mid-range quality.

It also used to be measurements of seperation and other sound quality were measured in .0000's, and all my new Sony stuff is .01 or worse. Wonder how they get by with that? Anyhow, I love to hear a real vinyl record being played. So much more true sound qualities.

Amen....I wasn't knocking your audio equipment....I was just stating the fact that I missed having access to it and was curious what you listened to.....I personally like the "several furry creatures in a cave grooving w/ a pict" song that waters did......it brings back sooo many visuals...uh I mean memories.....beleive me I notice the sound difference...I like listening to live recordings on vinyl....and hearing all the background noise of people talking and actually being able to understand what they're saying....never get that quality from any PC speakers playing MP3s.....I suffer w/ that set up all day long but at leas ti have my tunes.......
