New car: My cars wheels will only freely turn a little before locking

Hey guys,
I just finished building an ansmann virus 3 nitro car and I'm having some trouble. The gears mesh nicely and the wheels turn a little bit before they won't turn any more and the only way to make the car move further is to force it more which makes a nasty sound.

What could this be? Could it be something to do with the motor or clutch bell?

edit: also the pull start moves the spur gear ... Is this a problem? Points towards clutch bell? If so why does this happen?

When you pull the pull start the spur gear moves? I would start with the clutch shoes. pull the clutch bell off and check to make sure your shoes are installed correctly,

Definitely sounds like your clutch is binding. Does your clutch bell spin freely?

Thanks guys. Problem solved, clutch shoe springs weren't correctly installed, now they are tightly in place. The springs weren't forced back so were grabbing the clutch bell. The car now moves freely with little resistance although there's a bit of a noise as it moves but I assume its normal?

i have the same symptoms. though with mine its the center driveshaft the cups and dogbones keep getting locked up

It's probably just gear noise between the clutch bell and spur. Make sure you have the mesh set correctly.

No i had checked everything for the longest time i thought it was the brake hex on the t-maxx as i had just changed to steel cvds. Got out a micro vice and gripped it to the table and went to town on the c cup with a dremel. First i widened the inside diameter then i cut the grooves deeper and then gave the grooves a taper outwards. Sorted it right out. Its kind of addictive watching sparks fly off little pieces of metal and smelling the metal in the air... its the smell of work being done.
