I ordered a brushless esc (cheapy) that handles 9 cell nimh or 3s lipo. It comes with a 3000kv motor. What should I expect? It's going in an old Rustler with 2.8 Talons. Where should I start with the gearing? I'll run 6,7,8 and 9 cell packs through it. 3000kv seems low from what I've read. Eventually it will only see 9 cell packs. The pinions shaft is 3mm. Is that the same as standard brushed motors? Thanks as always.

Start with stock gearing and watch the temps on the ESC. If it gets too hot, drop some teeth on your pinion.

3000KV is lower than average, but will make for some very long run times. I'd run on the highest cell count you can. On 9 cell nimh you'll be turning about 30K rpms.

On 6 cells it will feel like a dog, you need more voltage to see the difference.

It was $50 bucks. Comes with a program card. 35 amp with 200 burst. Built in esc fan, but I'll have to run it off of the rx with the higher voltage packs. I figure if the weight of the rusty's a bit much, I'll go back to stadium tires, heat sink the motor and gear it safely. I believe mine's an e/z run also. It has to be better than the damn xl5 set up, though it motors pretty good on 8 cell 4200's. Comes with a warranty, though it's coming from Hong Kong.

mines coming from hong kong as well, the only problem i have with my e/z run setup is sometimes i nail the throttle and it takes off really well, other times it don't take off and get as much power as it can. i don't know what the problem is, i tried programming the esc it didn't help.
