I'm at the point in time that my cellphone contract is up and am looking at getting a new smartphone on Sprint. The old HTC Hero is on its last legs and I want to get something a bit better. Anyone have any suggestions for a newer Android phone running at least Gingerbread (Ver. 2.3)?

In my opinion, unless the HTC Hero is on it's death bed and no longer working. Than I'd keep chugging along with it until the newer phones this year get released. Phones that come PRE-shipped with ICS.

The Samsung Galaxy S ll is sprints flagship android phone right now and I've heard rumors that some of Samsung's "older" phones may not be getting the latest update (ICS). Thus my opinion to wait, newer phones are on the horizon, better battery life, better screens, quad core CPU's, more memory... oh yeah and ICS.

So IMO, unless you have get something - I'd wait.

I'll keep on trying to keep this old one running. Unfortunately I don't how much longer it'll keep on though. It's starting to lock up and lose info at odd moments.

I love my Samsung Captivate....

Yeah I don't think the older samsungs will get the ICS update over the air.. But that doesn't mean you can't root that badboy and put a custom ICS on it!
I have a samsung galaxy s (verizons fascinate) rooted and flashed with a power washed/de-bloated custom version of GingerBread..it's a beast now...a cold boot takes about 15 seconds...
Rooting and flashing firmware isn't for the faint of heart though...

You got that right, Frosty. Rooted a Nook to run Gingerbread from Cyanogen MOD. It, too was a beast. Unfortunately, this is my only phone and it's got the insurance from Sprint that won't cover anything if I root it.

My phone is doing weird things so it looks like I'll be getting a new phone on the 1st. It's dialing while the screen is locked and switching to a random app while on a call.

I'm leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch as the replacement. Any comments or suggestions?

I pulled the trigger on the Epic 4G today. The screen is huge! It's double the size of the one on my old Hero. 4G rocks as well.

Glad ya did it! I love Android and know how hard it can be to choose a new phone. Any word on if and when the Epic will be getting ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich)?

This is my 2nd Android phone and 4th device so I have to agree. ICS is suppose to be coming to the Epic. They are already pushing it out in Great Britain.

That is good news indeed! Looking like the HTC Thunderbolt will not be getting ICS so I too will be looking to upgrade. I'm on my fourth Android smartphone and my seventh device overall (two Windows based--huge mistake--and a Palm Treo got me started). Ralph would call me a geek. Or was that Dork?
