I just ordered a new 2.5r for my tmaxx, was havin issues with the .15, so i gave up on it just not starting, i ordered a new 2.5r the conversion kit and a new fuel tank to eliminate any fuel/air leaks it may of originally had. My question is, will i need to seal the engine? And if so, where are the points that need sealing? Your help is much appreciated

I usually seal even my new engines. The back plate and carb base is the only place's you need to seal. I use some high temp RTV copper seal on all my engine works great. There great vids on you tube about how to seal an engine.

I've never had to seal any of my engines yet..

And you may not ever have to but i also seal mine as soon as i get them it takes all of about 10 mins to pull the backplate and carb off and run a small amouint of rtv. Saves from taking a motor out earlier than needed

Thanks guys, and just a random question, I'm sure y'all have seen this a million times on here, but what is the difference between the 2.5 and the 2.5r? is it just the cooling head? Or is it more in depth with the block itself?

.15trx to the 2.5r? Why not drop a 3.3 in her, they are damn near similar in cost.

I seal my engnes up if I can't get a tune to hold, new or used engines. But it never hurts to seal up all your engines just to be safe. Use the forums search feature, plenty of engine sealing tip threads.

I was considering the 3.3, but at the moment i really dont want to upgrade all the gearing just yet. I like to open it up wide. Gotta give it time and eventually ill move up again, ill start upgrading gearing piece by piece, then when thats all complete and i get it how i want, ill go with a stronger engine. Hmm maybe a big block. Idk i would have to look into it. Not really looking for big speed, more of bigger torque.

To your question on the 2.5 and 2.5r there used to be a difference in the porting when they first were introduced, also the cool head on the 2.5r offered a little better cooling. I believe there are no difference in the new batch of 2.5 engines. As for then 3.3 and the 2.5. From experience both good engines I prefer the 2.5 less rod breakage.

Pretty certain you have the short chassis maxx hence the. 15 brain, a BB powerplant in a short maxx would be scary fast and near impossible to keep the front end down.

I also have the short maxx but a 2.5 and would only drop a BB in her after I put an extended chassis under her to help distribute power. Now if your maxx is set up for onroad mayhem then hell ya short chassis BB MAXX would be nuts and a little more logical to drop.

And for the love of your MAXX and Charles Darwin (no god here) dont supercharge or put boost bottles on it. Oh and no K&N style filters, keep the factory filter or pick up a motor saver air filter.

Geared and race piped or even piped would help, and over any pipe on the market I reccomend ERCM race tuned pipes, awesome power differance. Extreme RC Mods
