You know how it goes, you give the boss an idea and he tells you to "make it happen"...

Well, first came the idea that everyone at work should get RCs to play with at lunch, after work, etc.

So, 10 RS4 Evos later and we're all having fun but now the boss wants to hold some "races" on Fridays and give out small prizes.

I really don't want to go through the hassle of building a driver's stand (I do have real work to do!), so I'm trying to think of a decent layout that we can setup quickly out back that wouldn't be too difficult to drive from a surface view (IE: no stand)...

Also, we want to setup a drag race segment. Since a quarter mile track is 1,320 feet, wouldn't that be 132 feet in 1/10th scale? Right? So I can mark the pavement...

I'm thinking just some "kiddie cones" for track layout, but any other ideas are welcome...

Thanks for any ideas...

I'm sure almost any setup would work. But simple would probably be better. One long straight. A sweeper. Then perhaps a hairpin and chicane. And I bet there's something that could be used as like a temporary driver's stand. Hell, stand on milk crates.

And for drag racing, I found this site:
http://www.nrcda.com/
Since I don't race, I have no idea what the rules are, but that site should cover it.

A couple of pick-up trucks make an excellent drivers stand, easy to set-up easy to store and very portable.

as far as the course goes...can you drill some small holes in the ground?
If so I saw a little setup with 1/2" PVC pipe and some gutter spikes drilled through them to slide into the holes in the ground.....the guy had his square of pavement drilled out like a grid and the pipes drilled to match.....just plug em in wherever you want a turn......I thought it was cool.....somewhere near potomac washington or virginia (I was working on-site at the FAA Potomac TRACON building).....worked really well for electrics.....I bet it would kick ass for mini road cars...mustang you sound like you're complaining about this task....my boss saw me showing some engineers on a construction site my MT and almost had a fit......something about being childish and all.....what-EVER......I'd love my boss to tell me to build a track......trade jobs?

Thanks for the posts guys. I meant to put this in the General Nitro and must have brain farted when clicking on forums! :D

The spikes and PVC sound cool, but we're leasing... :(

I'm not so much complaining Plaid, but my immediate boss is out of the country on business and I'm kind of "running the show" for the next week or two, so I've got a ton of stuff to do. But when the VP asks, you do it. Plus, since I'm the most knowledgeable EVERYONE comes to me. I'm sure this Friday I'll spend the whole time tweaking, tuning, and fixing than I will racing myself...

Candyman, that helps. The site lists the track as 132 feet long, 200 feet of shut down, and 10 foot wide lanes. I've got that easy out back!

I'll post some pics of what we do this weekend...

You can do this with rebuildable connections, i.e. bolts through each junction to secure it on race day, and simple sand bags to hold it in position. We recently rebuilt our tarck(though permanent, it's a nice symetrical layout, done with all 30, 45, and 90 curves, with a few funky y juntcions) in a few days. We glued the pieces, but you could just as easily drill 3/8 holes, and drop in carrige bolts. Mark the ends of each to keep track of what goes where upon reassembly.
