OK, I'm pissed, I broke the connecting rods on two OS .21 RG(P)-X motors in the past two weeks. Damn, those motors ran great when they ran. I used them in a race Maxx with Hardcore extended chassis and tons of other goodies. The truck is solid and able to handle just about any power level.

Anybody got any recommendations for a good substitute to the OS motor? I would like to maybe move up to a .26, just to alleviate the stress on the motor (more power means engine works less). Has anyone switched from a .21 to a .26? Was there a penalty in handling because of extra weight or higher center of gravity? I need this truck to handle well as there are a lot of jumps and tight turns at the race track.

Any and all comments are appreciated.

RB has that new .28 engine targeted at the MT guys. It's supposed to be a Sirio killer (no pun intended), but in Sirio's
defense, I've heard nothing but excellant things about them.

It depends on what kind of money you feel like shelling out. If you have the OS it means you went fairly cheap in the $ dept as did I. Bomber had the same problem with the OS as you and mine had the crank snap into 2 pieces.

I went with an Omega 21 Comp

It's probably to early to give a solid review on this engine. I want to wait until she blows up so I can post how long it lasted for me.

As of right now, it's a pretty good engine. Pretty high rpm, lots of torque and I want to believe that it actually puts out the claimed 2.4hp. It has way more power than the OS 21 RG ever did. I only have about 1.5 gallons through it. The first 3/4 gallon was a bear to start. So much compression that I had to back the glow plug out a bit each time. Now, it still has a lot of bite at the top of the stroke with the plug out. I think it will last awhile longer than the OS did (2 gallons before crank broke). If you go with this one, the OS #8 plug makes it run really really well. Temps around 225-240, enough power to land on the roof every time you gun it. I've lost it twice when second kicked in with 72/20 gearing.

Bomber went with the HB Powerhouse .26

The virdict is still out on this one as well. I don't even think he has it fully broken in yet.

Good luck.

Thanks for tips. That Omega .21 looks kinda interesting. Where are the tech specs on it?

I was actually thinking of maybe a Wasp .26 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEKX1&P=ML Anybody had any experience with one of these?

Alternatively, a couple of guys I know have the Dynamite Mach .26 conversions and they love them. This Dynamite motor is advertised as a bolt in replacement for a .21. Does anyone know if this motor http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=DYN0887 would be basically a direct swap for the OS .21?

I really don't remember. I know I read somewhere that it had 2.4hp in the low 30k and a maxx of 38k. But i'll be damned if I can find where I read that now!

Well, I ordered a new Ofna Picco Outlaw .26 engine, which is the same as the Werks P3 or Orion Wasp. Rated at 2.7 hp this should give me plenty of punch. My intention is to limit the throttle opening using end point adjustments, to maybe about 2/3 to 3/4 open. That way, hopefully, I can keep strain on engine, tranny and diffs to a minimum.

I got the engine (new) on eBay for $159.00, which is a pretty good price, I think.

Thanks for tips gents.

You will have more than enough power with that one. Good choice.
