:\ ok a buddy of mine says i need to get into the crawler side of the RC hobby I'm disabled and on a fixed income so I tell him "you want me to get a crawler then you get me one" so last night he shows up at my house around 9pm with this big box and says heres 2 crawlers now finish building them.

so one is complete (its a POS according to what i have read here) its a redcat RS10 the old one not the XT model. i just ordered new steel gears for front and rear. what else do i need for this one?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

the secound one says integy and axial on different parts and i have no clue what it is? or what i need for it. cause it has no manual. so any help or info I would be happy to listen.
i do know the second one needs motor radio/recive and esc and new wheels because these dont fit all the way up on the lugs.

The second one from what I can see looks to have axial ax10 axles with an integy chassis. The rs10, yes are pos's. If they have metal gears available for them now, then ya, thats gonna be a must. Biggest problem with them is that they use such small motors and are really hard to get much power out of without heating up them little guys. Even with better than stock motors.

the axial based one looks to need trans parts, dont see the clutch or out drives or drivelines. I hope you didnt pay much for them....The wheel on it are 1.9's from a scx10 same with the tires.

I would try to find someone interested in the P.O.S. RS10 and sell it. Invest your time and money on the ax10. You can find affordable parts especially stock stuff on Ebay even Local Hobby Stores. Take the time to research and hunt for parts. you will start to get the bug, in the long hall you will be a lot happier. You will spend twice the time working and money on the RS10 keeping it running.
You will get better bang for the buck from the AX10.

Either sell the RS10 or part her out but she isnt worthy of anything IMO, clean the AX10 up and make a parts list of what you need and post it up on here and we will help you get your parts. If you need to rebuild the AX10s tranny I would go with Axials hardened tranny gear set along with MIP stainless steel driveshafts. Stock spur gear with a 12-14t pinion on a 35-45t motor did me real good on my shafty when I had he up.

It also appears you have a home made chassis extenstion, I would take that off and revert your shocks and parts back to the chassis. If those are 1.9 wheels and tires you will need to step up to the 2.2 for better performance. When you get far enough into this rebuild the boys including me will only reccomend one company for comp chassis & links.

Not to spam on myself here but I have a crap load of parts including a full set of 4 proline hammer 2.2 tires and wheels. Let me know if you need anything.

Hope this helped

Here is a link to the online manual so you can see what parts you have and which parts you will need, I would suggest upgrading the parts you will need because it will save you money in the long run when you have to replace the stock ones again.

PS. it will take a while to load, it is a big manual....

i tried to take those home made parts out but the rear lower links are 149mm and thats all i have so the parts wont reach the stock chassie with out them. and ty ill keep that in mind when i start ordering parts.

again thank you all for the info so far i have 60.00 in all metal gears i ordered for the rs10 both rigs were given to me so i guess I'm doing ok so far lol

I know what it's like to be on a fixed income. I try to help some of the guys at my lhs that are worse off than I am. I'll also try to help with parts as I can.

As I look closer to that RS10 Nightmare. There are some links there that could possibly altered to your needs. Motor, Servo Etc. Etc. Etc. I would rob as much as possible to save money. I do realize your new into this but, your buddy might beable to help or many of us here. Take some more photos so, we may be able to point you in the right direction.
My biggest thing to this hobby is the build and being creative. I find it to be very therapeutic after a long day. Most people start with a out of the box truck and modify from there, when they first get into a hobby like r/c. You are lucky you get to start on the fun part with the build.
If I can help I will be checking back on his thread to find out how you are doing.
Good luck and enjoy !

:D ok got the steele gears in for the RS10 and yes i know I'm new to crawling and very un-edumacated on them but please tell me why everyone bad mouths this lil truck yes ill agree i need some better tires but when i finished installing all the new gears i throwed a batt in and set it on the floor then never touched it again till i was done 45 minutes later when i brought it back in (yes i drive them right through the house and out the front door-gotta love having the wheelchair ramp out front) and never once got stuck i know i was only on the pile near my home but here you look the wife took pics and video here are the pics till i figure out how to upload video.

SAY NO TO INTEGY!!!
Other then there motors they are a lot of show and no go.

Some better options

Drive Shafts http://www.rcplanet.com/MIP_C_Drive_Spline_Set_AX10_Scorpion_p/mip08101.htm

Go with a Integy 35 INTSCM3501 or 45
INTSCM4501 turn motor, it will be so slow with a 60 turn that it will not be able to get out of its on way.

Castle Creations Sidewinder ESC

I would also go with the stock plastic body mounts, you want a little flex.

The Axles are a good starting point for a shafty based crawler or even a scaler build, you might look into a after market chassis.

ok decided I'm board so I'm gonna build this crawler any way with what ever parts i can afford and just have to upgrade parts as i can wish me luck cause i have internet and a paypal account so who knows what i may end up with

I'm glad someone jumped in and warned him. That's what we're here for. If you're new, ask here first. Most of us have learned the hard way.

Integy makes a good 55T crawler motor and a nice 3 shoe nitro clutch. NOTHING else from that company is recommended unless you're just looking to display shiny stuff in a china cabinet.

Fixed it for you.

And you must have a ton of Integy parts then Ralph, LMAO!!!!!!:hehe::p::D

Other makers supply shiny things that are also rock solid. :first_place:

But if it is just gonna sit on a shelf why spend the extra money, LOL!!!!!:hehe: Then after thinking about it I guess you would not want to have the name INTEGY all over your RC's, people might think you were sponsored by them or something, LOL!!!
