Need help with my Traxxas Nitro Rustler starting up. I'm out of ideas

that makes sense. I don't however understand why Traxxas would use this ez start system. I have not read one comment or review all over the internet with anything positive to say about this system. Why make this the system stock when seemingly that have to know its faulty and everyone doesn't like it.

I got just a couple more questions. Would the problem probably be in the wand or in something on the truck itself. Since I replaced the whole harness (blue, white, red, yellow) and the glow plug itself? If I were to get one of the starters you guys have suggested would I lose those same wires altogether? is there any test I can do to definitively tell where the problem is?

The connector goes bad,the button sometimes goes bad,..if you buy a pullstart all and everything associated with the ez start will be eliminated!

apart from a few problems some people have the ez start system is good ,I still have the full system on a few of my rigs . I think the only reason I have removed it on most was due to the extra battery to charge when I don't really need it and a pullstart with an ignitor is less to carry.
pull your plug out and connect it to the blue wire then ground it against the cooling head and press the ez start ,if it don't glow then sart looking at other things but I would most likely say its your tune ,any form of ignitor will struggle with a rich tune setting.

i am thinking its the wand because i owned the EZ start and it always turned unless it was flooded in which case when i removed the glow plug and flipped it over and hit the button it would always turn. here is a video of my pullstart, first rip after installing i new clutch.

thanks to advice from this site it fires first rip every time. it took some failures and some practice though.

there is nothing really wrong with the ez start system ,and bad tune makes them crap , sort the tune and happy days.

The ez start is prone to breaking here and there but I dont really mind them to much. If I do use one though i use a seperate glow ignitor cuz the bluewire lasts about 10 seconds on my kits lol. Usually if I take one off a system its because like Chickenman, I dont want the excess baggage or on some kits like my Losi Ten-T I didnt like that extra weight and the slightly higher center of gravity. Losi calls its ez start system a R.O.S.S. but same difference. I dont think Losi used this one much else besides the Ten-T though.

As for the glow plug when you put current into it like in the picture below it causes the filament inside to glow red hot and when you start turning your engine over it will cause the fuel to combust thereby starting your engine. Once the engine is going every stroke of the piston will cause a new ignition which keeps the filament glowing red hot allowing the engine to keep combusting without the need for additional current.

If it was me I'd get rid of the EZ-Start as from what I've heard it's hit and miss. As for doing it manually, you'll need a pull start mechanism:

And a good quality glow starter. Like mentioned above :)

*Also get a good quality Glow plug.

I never had a problem spinning the engine with the EZstart wand, only had problems with the circuit for the glow plug going bad.
Unless you're trying to eliminate a little weight for racing, the EZ start is a cool feature when used with a separate ignitor.

Does sound cool, but to be honest its more satisfying starting it like a lawnmower :p

I had this exact problem with a T-Maxx. I replaced the 7.2 nicad battery in the ez-start wand and boom problem solved. The charger said it was good to go but when I went to use it either a couple pops or nothing. Shaun
