Hello every one ,about a year ago i bought a revo used with a lrp.28 engine. While running the truckthis morning i noticed it would not idle also when i try to start it with the roto start it has no compression and takes long time to start. My question is do all LRP 28 engines use the same piston and sleeve? if not how do a tell specifically which engine i have? and with a new engineLRP.28 costing about 180.00 is it worth rebuilding ,the piston and sleeve cost about $70.00

There's a "6" port lrp the spec 2. And an "8" port lrp spec 3. The 8 port p/s will work in the 6 port engine. The only difference between any lrp or sh .28 is the sleeve.

My opinion on the rebuild depends on the rod. That's another $25 and I always change the bearings. So if you need a rod, then no. That's $125 on a $175 engine. If you think the rods good, then do it.

U have changed glow plug? Not starting is also related to glow plug. Just double checking.

I would sell it.And pick up a new one.You can get the SH-8 port with roto start engine on a certain web site starting at $130.Same as the LRP.I picked my LRP.28 SPEC3 for around $150.

thnx guys,Is there a way to tell without pulling out the sleeve which engine i have (spec 2 or spec 3) and what is a sh-8 is that a type of engine ,i couldn't find it on flea bay (sorry i have only been in r/c for about a year ). the engine just lost compression but will start and run just wont idle so i guess the rod is good but if i replace the bearings then it may not be worth it

Have u changed glow plug? Not idling is also a glow plug issue. And u might as well buy new. But u should be pulling that motor apart anyway to see what's broken if anything at all. Then ull be able to see the sleeve.

On the head it will say spec2 or spec3.thats about it without looking at the sleeve.they are the same except 6 port and 8 port.sh is an exact lrp engine.sh has 3 port,6 port,8 port.can u tell if it has any pinch when u turn it over.complete bearing failure will do that too, engine will start but will not run.only way to tell is to look. That way u can see if it is conrod, bearing, what ever.and if all looks well then I would to a repinch and new bearings.I just did my lrp.28 very ez.no tools needed if you heat the engine case first.I did mine in oven for 20mins at 300.works perfect everytime.Mine is modded so I got boca bearings.$20+ for both and very fast shipping. They will withstand 15,000 more rpms.watch squirrel's vid on how to change nitro engine bearings on youtube.it is step by step.and don't be afraid to get ur hands dirty, thats the fun of it.dont let it intimitate you it is really rather simple.good luck

the head does say spec 3 (never noticed it before ) ,i can rotate the flywheel with my pinky finger ,it only has a little compression at tdc. I will pull it apart and rebuild it .thnx for all the info from every one and WILDWILLY420 thnx for the info on the radio/reciever

Considering the cost of the parts, I'd just get the sleeve pinched to get some more life out of it and save up for a new one. You can get a pinch done for $25 at rayaracing.com. You send him the piston/sleeve, he puts the sleeve in a press and shrinks it a bit in a few key places and sends it back. Then you do a few tank wear in (vs full on break in) and your good to go for a few more gallons.

That is also an option. But while u have it apart u need to thoroughly check bearings, one way bearing, the block for any wear marks, the crank for damage and the rod. If any of those parts look worn or have play they need to be replaced. If u don't u might as well throw that pinched sleeve away when u get it back.

If u do have the money sitting in the bank get a new motor. Also check out dollarhobbyz. They buy new rc cars and sell the parts separately. I'm pretty sure they have the lrp 28 spec 3 parts there. I had a look for mine. I have ordered a lot of revo and Merv parts from there and there always brand new and packed really well

can anyone tell me where i can find a sh.28 engine selling in the states? i can only find them on ebay shipping from china. I tried google and it seems that Hobbypeople.com sold this engine but now i just see parts .I have a LRP.28 with a rotor start on my revo can it work on the sh .28 ?also i cannot find any specs as far as the amount of ports ,thnx
