Hey Guys, I'm new to this Forum, I found out about it through HPI's website. I have an RS4 Gen 2 Car (hope I got that right). I bought it several years ago, and then gave it to my friend cause he was going to make it a two stage clutch, I believe thats what he told me he was doing. Well 3 YEARS later about I get my car back, I don't recognize the gears he put in, there is a whole new Muffle, and supposedly something in the transmision changed too.

The Short of it is I bought a brand new Hot Shot, charged it up and everything. I bought a full thing of 20% to run it. YEsterday I was cleaning it up a bit, and found a yellow thick fluid substance in the gas tank and the Fuel line. I had to remove them and clean them out. My fear is some of the gas left over I guess coagulated or something. If it was in the Engine, is the Engine Shot? I tried to start it up tonight, and it never happened, not even close. Must have pulled it 50 times at least.

Do I have to change out my engine? If I do, I'd rather put the fastest one I can in there instead of the stock one. What would the fastest one be without Too much modification. I don't mind changing some parts, but not the whole Diff or tranny and stuff.

Please help me out, I really want to get this going and have some fun with it, but I'm not sure what to do from here.

Thanks so much

Here is my suggestion.
Get a can of nitro spray, take the carb out, take the glow plug out and replace it with a new one. Spray the inside of the carb.
Take the cooling head off, pull the sleeve and spray nitro cleaner in the engine.
Get all the goop out, change the fuel lines, spray the fuel tank out.
Get some after run oil and put it in the carb (few drops).
Put some into the engine also.
Put it all back together and give it a shot.

If you can still turn your engine over, ther is probably hope. I've never seen fuel thicken though. Did you add anything to it?

I'v seen that happen before. The nitromethane evaporates and all that's left is the caster oil.

Did you change out the glow plug? I'll be thats it, but I suggest cleaning out the engine and tank and replace the lines aswell. Does it feel like there is resistance when the engine turns over? If not it may be worn out, it should 'pop' a little after it turns over.

What I did do....

Thanks for all your advice guys. I didn't do anything to the engine except a few drops of after burn my friend told me to put in. It does pull when I try to start it, and there is resistance, but no more or less than when I first got the car and had it running. The idea of everything evaporatin exept the caster oils seems to make the most sence, so there is some of this goop left in the engine. I guess my only hope is to take it apart and try to clean it all..... (sigh)

I'll do it when I get some extra time, I'll keep you apprised.

Thanks

Taking apart these engines is not really very hard. I have found the hardest part is getting the sleeve out, after that its not hard. If there is goop in your engine, it would be a very good idea to take it out and clean it. When you get it back together be sure to put a good amount of ARO to prevent it from rusting, and to keep proper lubrication in there. Then install new fuel lines and clean out the tank, put in a new glow plug, put in some new fuel and give it a tune and it should run like a champ.

If you have any questions along with way be sure to ask before you mess something up. I have heard of people putting the sleeve in backwards etc...just better to ask then mess something up for good.

theyre all right....take apart the engine, clean it real good...you can soak it in denatured alcohol & dry it good....put it togather & lube it with some after run oil & replace the plug with a new one

I did that with a truck I got a hold of a while back and it worked out fine.

This is a great example of why you should burn out all of fuel from the engine and empty the fuel cell before storage. It makes the next time you run a whole lot easier.

I always put a zip tie or two in the exhaust port, and then turn the mill over at the flywheel. Pops it right out, or makes a great zip tie cutter..... It just takes patience, dont' rush it.
