I just got done watching the race.
Why is that track so hard on tires?
Is it from the speed of the track or the design?

What are "Sticker" Tires?

The track needs to be reserfaced for one.To handle the speed of the cars....That is the reason there tires wore out so quickley...

Sticker tires are new tires.

The cars have gotten faster and the track was made for the cars of yesterday IMO

yeah I heard the guys say it is going to get paved so next year it wont be so rough.
I would be pissed if every 30 laps my front right tire would blow. and who was it 17, I think who drove off with the gas can still attached. Bet the pit guy felt stupid.

they kept saying that the cars were going to fast to often and not letting the tires cool in the turns. caues they were going like 189 all the way around.

It was still a interesting race.

The track was especially hard on tires because the tires were not designed to handle those kind of constant speeds. When they "ground" the track in certain spots it made the track smoother and gave it more grip. more grip = higher speeds, it also means the cars don't slide around as much which means the tires don't wear, this in turn creates a condition where the tire does not dissipate heat as quickly because they don't create the amount of "marbles" (worn away rubber). That's what causes the tires to blister like they were talking about so much.

They were running about 4.5 mph faster than they did earlier in the year. Simply put, the tires were not engineered for those conditions.

New tires are nicknamed "stickers" because they still have the sticker on them from the manufacturer.

Go #42... er... 6... I mean 97. Whatever.

Lessen pretty much summed it up.

42 out of 43 teams had tire problems yesterday, looks like goodyear messed up on the compound for that race.

And yes, it was Ryan Newman who drove off with the fuel can still stuck in his car, I never seen that before, I have seen the catch can get stuck a few times but never the fuel can.

Your right nitrost, Jimmie Johnson ruined another race, I can't stand that guy. I really wanted to see Joe Nemechek beat him since my guy was out of it.

Hey NC,

does Goodyear make a compound specific to every track or does Nascar tell them what they want at the beginning of the year and they make it for all races?

I've always thought they used the same tire everywhere.

Tony Stewart put it best. It's not Goodyear's fault. They had no idea the track would be that fast. And just what Lesson said. The tires must wear properly to dissipate heat. That is how they are designed. The tires don't wear they build up heat and boom..Ask Dale Jr...LOL!!!!.And NC and Nitro.I hope Jimmie ruins a few more races before the chase is over. And why do peeps hate a guy or team when they are so successful at a particular track? That team has figured it out..Just like ole Darell Waltrip back in the day when he owned both Bristol and Martinsville.O I forgot something for you guys.....

wow I'm surprised he can lift that by himself.

everyone has thier opinions mark, I'm sick of johnson and gordon, all you ever do is here them wine about some Sh**.

I have heard many other drivers whine a hell of alot more than Gordon or Johnson ever have..And when drivers win alot they are whiners..I don't get it..But as long as they whine in victory lane it's all good..

Goodyear does make specific tires for every track.
With a recomended PSI. for the track..

You would never run a speed way tire on a short track!

Thanks Z

topping off on what markallen said... I hate to say it but Mark Martin has been especially whiny the last couple weeks. I understand his frustration but I'm just pointing out others who complain. I'm not saying that their complaints aren't legit... I'm just sayin.

LOL, who, JJ and Gordo are the kings of whining! Would you like some cheese to go with that whine from CON MAN Racing? They are one in the same, it's ok if they hit someone or move people out of the way but don't get anywhere near them, oh no, you can't touch them or they go crying to Mike Hunter or Hog Head about it on the next interview. Nemechek had a silent team order since the MB2 gets their engines from the CON. And just to add I thought they ground the whole track just like Indianapolis Motor Speedway did this year, they said it was the same company that did the grinding. It's actually diamond cut rows, pretty funky looking when you see it up close, it's really no wonder tires can't hold up on very well unless the manufacturers did some testing with compounds on it.

I'm not even going to comment on the the JJ and Gordo comment..I didn't know that they ground Indy too..But Lowes will be repaved before next year's 600 race..

They shoulda never fiddlesticked with it in the first place.

I've grown to love Nascar over the last two years but I still get very irritated by the way they conduct business. To my knowledge (and if somebody knows better please chime in) they are the only sporting association that just makes new rules as they go along. For instance.... the mandatory caution after the first 30 laps. What kind of fuckin retarded bullshit was that?!?! What exactly did it accomplish? Didn't stop a dozen+ guys from smackin the wall with the same problem did it? Oh, then there was the mandatory minimum tire pressure out of the blue. C'mon now, what's with the concern? After all, it all fine and dandy to give somebody a 20mph shot at 190 at Dega. Oh, guess I forgot, that's close racing so it makes it ok. Stewart had one of the few cars w/o tires issues but since he was whoopin everybody's ass they gotta stop in start makin changes. I guess having a crew chief than knows how to set up a car and a driver than can handle the situation just isnt fair anymore.I swear there's a new rule every damn weekend. They're always talking about being fair. Fair this fair that. Here's what's fair... make the rules in the winter, enforce the rules in the summer, and just let 'em fuckin race.

ok, I'm done. Thank you.

make the rules in the winter, enforce the rules in the summer, and just let 'em fuckin race.

Agreed

With out the mandatory caution Tony would have won that race

Yeah, agreed here too. As fiddlesticked up as the FIA is in governing F1, they make rules prior to the next race season, and that's it. About the only time they will ammend something is when safety is a concern, like the tire rule this year. All in all the Bill France is just as bad as Bernie Ecclestone and Adolf Hitler.

they try caitering to too many ppl at the same time ,if chevy is woop'in ass they they add spoiler to quiet ford and dodge and visa-versa
i was lost when they brought out the red flag with like 60 sum laps why???
or the sore loosers like Gordon and Jr well we arent in the race for the cup so fiddlesticks it we crash we are done ,any other time they would bust there ass's to get them cars back out there NOT to run in someone elses tires
as for stewart he stepped on his own peepee getting greedy if he would have taken his time and waited then he would have walked away with it but he should have known being down on the bottom like that then he wasn't going to get any slack
humpy did his job by making the track faster that what they all cry about and now they blame him because they can't handle the speed and the chiefs can't set the cars up correctly to save there tires ,

my cousin gets the biggest charge out of these guys cryin all the time ,he ran the acra series with his father in the 90's drove the #67 red white and blue thunderbird (Graham Taylor) and they did ok for a country boy team and buildin there own chassis's and poop
he just says the need to get rid of the headarectumitis and race
thats all i gotta say
later ppl

His job is to be a promoter. That doesn't necessrily mean the track needs to be faster. That track was just fine the way it was before, it offered great competitive racing and sold out every single race. Tell me who's being greedy here... Hey Humpy, If it ain't broke, don't fix it! As for the drivers and chiefs... well, they were all at the same track using the same tires so as far as I'm concerned it's just as even up as it can get. zippy got it right so what's everybody elses problem?

I don't have a problem with them going 190 at Charlotte, that's fine, it's racing. In fact there is nothing wrong with the track the way it is now. The fact is that if they are going to run as hard as they can they need a different compound. The only thing I don't like are the midseason changes and instant rules. I feel that these track owners shouldn't be allowed to make major track changes like that mid season. But that's going back to Nascars "kiss everybody's ass" policy. Nascar has been around way too long to be this unrefined.
