Weather was perfect for once! We got there 2 hours before gates opened to prep the track with a huge hand from track owner Terris using his big broom truck and water truck to really get the surface clean.
Before long we had a pretty decent group of racers ready to TnT.
Some new faces, one seemed a bit familiar...
Yes, that was Kiko from Street Outlaws Northeast Team (Chris Rankin was also at the track running his new car)
With all the new faces, and most of our regulars there (some of which don't yet have nitro cars but bring their brushless) - we made a decision to change the list racing to something more inclusive.
JT brought some seriously sweet new cars with him, so we had to figure out a way to get his and all the other new guys involved.
JT's "Bandit" was one of the coolest things I've seen yet!
Early on despite the road being scraped clean, we were having a bit of a struggle with some of the cars - others were planting and flying down the track. Newcomer Frank was driving his Losi as well as one of my cars, Incinerator and making excellent passes. While we waited for a few of the racers to get there, we got some great grudge races out of the way.
During that time, we formulated a plan - which was that this day we would run a simple shootout, with the winner getting a gift card for a dinner, with no buy-in to keep it informal. The idea sounded great to everyone. Unfortunately though, Kiko, Benji, and Joe, were a bit leary of making full passes because their cars just weren't set up for dry tire and were struggling badly. They had a race the following weekend at their home base, and didn't want to damage the cars so close to it, so they opted out. Meanwhile as they headed down to help Rankin with his car, more of the N301 boys filtered in, and we set up a bracket.
We had a pretty good field of cars, and I wound up getting a ton of great footage as well for the next RCSO episode - now I'll be able to really produce it better with the feedback I got too.
The racing was incredible, some of the very best races we've had all year, and finally some really nice passes on this spot.

In the end, the car that was finally able to after 2 years of misfires, be a dominant force on the track took home the victory. Since I was the one offering up the dinner gift card, I was thinking "Ah, just saved myself some money, lol". However, very nicely and generously Big Moe walked up and slipped me some cash!
After that, we just chilled with a bit more grudging and talked about the future and direction we were going with all of this. In the end we concluded that we want to ditch the list format and go for a points series instead. We will hold a series of this style bracket and create a points system. Each race will have a prize, as well as trophies - and be inclusive to brushless cars. Nitro cars will accumulate points, and at the end of the season the top car gets to hold the title belt for a year, and the top 3 points finishers get big trophies.
Later this week I will finish up the RCSO show and post it, it's going to really show how much fun this was!
