Once again, as it seemed all year, the conditions were brutal. The wind was screaming yet again. Blowing dirt and dust everywhere, making it impossible to even light our grill. We just cannot catch a break, other than the temps being decent, though maybe a bit chilly.
We scrubbed, blew, scrubbed, blew as best we could. It was back breaking. At some point one of the guys went out and bought a case of Sprite, and poured it down on the track the first 30 ft to eat away the caked on mud. Well, it worked, but it was almost a prep surface, lol. In the end, the track was in pretty good shape and cars were making very good passes during the TnT.
Luckily the wind was at our backs and blowing down the track. Otherwise, I do not think we could have run.
I don't remember how many cars we had entered, but it was a good field, so the payout was going to be decent. We had four racers cancel at the last minute, which would have added another 8 or so cars and made it huge. It is what it is.
I had three cars entered myself, including the debut of Terrorcuda, which I had not disclosed any running video to this point because the car was a secret weapon. That thing is ungodly fast.
We had a really competitive field. Some of the best races and best driving all year long. Two drivers were young guns, 9 and 11 (I think) years old. The 9 year old has been racing with us all year and is an absolute killer on the tree and behind the wheel. He and his father both have been great additions to the team. The 11 year old was racing for his first time, and he was amazing and did great.
My cars were all on point for sure, making really great passes. You'll see some of this when I finish up the RCSO episode. We got a lot of great footage! As has been all season, it felt like Moe and I were on a collision course for a finals showdown, making pass after pass. Hissed Off sadly blew a spur gear and I had no spare left after having given all of them away this season, lol, and got knocked out in the quarters. Invader II also got eliminated because I redlit, sadly, because the car was the fastest on the track. Good ole Terrorcuda, that featherweight thing with a one-speed, ripped on all the way to the final, where I lost when it knocked the tires off after mid track (for the first time all day too).
I loved seeing the young gun taking home a trophy, he wanted one so badly in the list racing finals and came up just short. This time he got his first piece of hardware, and he even grudged afterwards and took home a little bit of cash.
Moe and I did some grudging after, Invader II vs Kong, and he took the first race, I took the second one. In the end it was an awesome end to the best N301 season we've had yet.
