GS Storm RTR
A few days ago i took my front and rear diffs out and filled with oil.
When i was done reassembling i noticed this little black o-ring laying there! I tore the diffs back down.. pulled out the manual.. and found no reference to this little bugger. At that point i convinced myself that it must have been something in my screw kit that i have that was just stuck on a screw. i double checked the rea and front diff and compared.. no sign of another o-ring. Please note that this is not the orange/yellow o-ring that goes over the output shaft in the diff. This one is indeed black. Now just yesturday i serviced my center diff and to my suprise i found another o-ring laying on the table after reassembling. I really hope I'm not loosing my mind. I have t o-rings and no clue where they go. this concerns me deeply. i have searched online tutorials like this... http://www.twf8.ws/new/tech/car/gsracing/stormprobuild/index/stormproindex.html
and stared at my manual now for an hour. . i have no clue where these to little buggers go. here are pics with size comparison...

well......from my short lived experience those small o-rings go inside the output shaft were your drive shafts go so they don't tear up your diff. and if i'm totally off the mark somebody will correct me.

not the yellow ones

if i am not mistaken you are reffering to the yellow/orange o-ring between the diff case and the 6x10 bronze bushing.. this pic is not the o-ring in question. all of the yellow/orange are in place.

or are you referring to somewhere near the bearing? on the exterior of the diff case?

i thought of maybe between the drive shaft and the output shaft but i dont see any others... could (since there are only 2) they be for sitting between the drive shaft and the center diff.. like some sort of bushing? I believe when my throttle kicks in my shafts so to speak suck in to towards the center diff... could that be to cushion the force to the center diff? I'm reaching here. .HELP!

They may have went inside the drive cups.

drive cups? are you referring to the outside part of the output shaft? if so i danced with that idea in the edit above. . my only logical idea

clue #2 one of the rings that i have yet to clean has oily substance .. possible dif grease. Storm RTR is shipped with diffs only factory grease.... no oil.. which makes me think inside the diff.

dark10304,

that link you provided seems to be an excellent GS Storm resource. the fella there lays out all parts needed to correctly assemble the GS diff's. i studied the instructions and don't see where your black o-ring could go on the inside or the out. in fact, i've not seen an o-ring like that on any diff assembly i've ever torn down. follow the directions you had located, make sure everything fits well. i think you'll be fine. o-ring like that usually needs "removing" when disassembling something. they rarely "fall" out due to the nature of their use. if it was supposed to be there, i think you would have known it.

Found Them!!!! I think anyway.

Download this manual that's for your buggy http://www.gsracing.com/gsracing/downloads/manuals/Storm RTR.pdf

The o-rings appear to be part 99 on page 13. They go into the outdrive cups to help cushion the dog bone ends for the center diff.

The only thing is, you said you were working on your front and rear diffs. I didn't see the same o-ring on the installation instructions for the front and rear diffs to tire outdrive. Just the front and rear diff to the center diff outdrive/dogbone.

I have 2 maxx's and I have to work to much for the job that pays for the maxx's to play with them lately, so I thought I'd at least try to help others this weekend.

i think this is right:read:

yes

you are right thanks. ..
what had happened is when i removed my front and rear diffs the dog bones came off thus exposeing the orings enough to fall out. is this typical for RCs to have these orings there?

Not trying to resurrect an old thread, but yes, it is common for something to be in the drive cups. They are even there in my B3.

I've even added some to take up the slack, to better align the shafts between the output cups. This can be done on the rear as well.
