RC Driving Style
Hi. I bought a savage about 7 months ago, and i just keep breaking the darn thing. I've spend about $1600 on my truck, but it just doesn't do anything i want. After the first tank i broke the disk brake hub and disk brake itself (it was worn away). After i installed an aluminum brake hub and homemade brakedisc (wich worked fine) and after a good 5 tank break in, i thouhgt the fun would begin (after 2 months). But then i fried my spur gear (got one made from titanium now) and after that was fixed i broke my crankcase. Now i got a picco .26 in it, and i drove it twice after my 5 tankfulls of brake in. When i wanted to lean out the carb, It ran almost perfectly. The next day, i wanted to drive my truck, wich is logical cause i didn't have the chance to bash with it for about 6 months cause of al the stuff that broke.
Well, the next day after i drove it, it didn't start. And my homemade disk brake is to thin to use.
So i have driven my savage about 3 times in 7 months now, and i'm getting a little pissed off (can i say pissed?). I'm 15 years old and i am running out of money to buy a double steel brake disk or whatever tomorrow is needed to keep the darn thing running. And i know why my engine doesn't starts, probably a bad needle setting. But i am trying to get that right for a week now, and still no results.
BAsically all i wanted to know is, what what your experiences where with your first rc-car. Is it normal that if you buy a 1600 $ toy that it doesn't works?

You must be doing something wrong. I went overboard with the $700 I spent on the Savage SS and thats w/ a Futaba 3PM radio. Stock engine, gets kinda hot but still runs great. I beat the hell out of it yesterday, doing 4 full speed cart-wheels, hit 2 trees, one at WOT, flipped it several times and except for the body, all is fine.

Since your having so many problems, I would suggest taking it to your local hobby shop and asking someone there who knows the truck to help you. Why you would have replaced the engine already is beyond me. I really do not see how you could have spent $1600 but if you say so...

well, i live in holland, and everything with rc is much more expensive:
Savage ss: $650
Radio:$150
Engine$300
Support equipment: $200
Spur gear: $48
Diff mod: $65
motorsaver airfilter: $30
Engine plate: $30
and a few spare parts, and a few other minor hop ups...
And i am going to a track next week end, and i'm sure someone can help me with my needle settings and stuff.

BTW it was a total of $1300, made little mistake with calculating from euro to dollar ;)

i would get out of the hobby if you live in holland ....them prices are crazy..sounds to me you should of bought a rtr,the problems you are experiacing are probably from buliding it,i've had my savage for over a year and had never had the type of problems you are having other then a fried spur and the stock brake disc is shity, and i was wondering why did it take 7 months to fix it?picco's a little sensitive to tune and need to be sealed up real good.

Yeah, I have a few problems with mine but nothing like what you're having. You must have done something wrong like hb1111 said.

Man, your at $950 with just the engine and the truck!!! That's nuts. I don't know the picco 26 though, so can't really help with specifics.

First, is your glow heater fully charged? Did you try a new glow plug? Is the engine primed? Are you using a pull start or roto start?

I do have the dual disk upgrade, the 4spider diff mod, both of which were there when I bought the rig from SkyMaxx and are holding up really well..

I don't get why your chewing up spur gears either. Maybe you need to tighten the nut a little and check gear mesh. I've run a little over 2 gallons through my savage and I'm on the original spur. I'm running an Omega 21 Comp(supposedly puts out 2.4hp) and everything is holding up really well.

I can't really think of anything for why your engine isn't starting, other than the heater and change of glow plug. Normally after breaking an engine in, it's a good practice to toss the glow plug and put in a new one. Running really rich fouls them up. As well as, most new engines have a little bit of metal shaving floating around in it, which may get stuck on the glow plugs coil and foul it up as well.

Well, i have already broken 2 pullstarters, and the third one i am using holds up untill now. And yes, my engine is primed, my glowstarter is charged and i have 3 backup plugs to test, so thats all fine. And why it took me 7 months to fix it? Well, i always have to wait for money/parts. I want to stay in the hobby, i like my truck, but its always like:"maybe my engine will start for a change", or "Will the truck hold up?". I'll try to get my truck running properly for the next few weeks, and i think it'll work fine, cause like i said i'm going to a track and there's probably someone who can hep me. And thanks for all the input guys!

BTW: i've crashed alot too, i am not concerned about breaking a tvp or a suspension arm or whatever, but it seems i always have drivetrain problems.

thats why i ordered my savage ss from towerhobbies. i live in holland also and you can buy 2,5 savage's in US for 1 in Holland. its that expensive here.
i should get my savage tomorrow or the day after, very happy
hope i dont brake anything that fast. pockets aint "that" deep. even the serpent 1:10 onroad cars are cheaper in US and they make the cars in holland  very weird. damn euro

yo petal. Is it possible to get all that stuff cheaper there than here in Holland? I thought you had to pay tax and stuff, so that it wouldn't matter where you buy it?
And if not, i'll order everything from tower too! :D

yes. you have to pay tax and douane rechten. but even with all that payed you are much cheaper.

i got my savage in yesterday  very happpyyy hehe.

i got the new ss version with engine and body. and 3shoe type clutch and racing fuel tank. i also order a hightech servo.
the servo costs in holland 80 euro. i payed around 40 dollar.

these things all incl with tax en douane rights and even a servo. i came around 200 euro cheaper then just buying the savage ss with engine here.

i really recommend it. i ordered my hpi pro 12R xs engine few months ago. it was on my door step with in 4 days. i payed 120 euro for that. the engine here is around 250.

the savage took 1,5 week to arrive. very fast and great service from towwerhobbies.

if ya need info [email protected] just email
