Hiya all... I have a problem with my Nitro RS4 MT that's kicking my butt. I recently installed a 2-speed tranny for parking lot usage on the MT. The truck runs like a dream at higher RPM's but if you let it idle, after about 10 seconds, *something* makes a 1/2 second screech noise, the truck lunges forward and the engine dies. I initially thought it could be the idle stop screw but my tweaking there hasn't helped. I've tried leaning/richening the air/fuel mix to no help. I'm just stumped as to what the problem could be...
if it helps, here's a video of the truck doing this - (note the sound it makes right before it dies)

(the k&n air filter is off b/c I was previously attempting to adjust the idle stop screw, with no success in helping the problem)

Thanks in advance...

clutch bearings are shot. they are seizing and causing the car to lunge and die.

I second the clutch bearings... and maybe a close third would be the clutch draggin on you. At low RPM's, the engine doesn't have enough torque to keep running, so it locks and dies.

I've had that on both burned up bearings and a broken clutch spring. Seems to work ok until the parts get good and toasty from the friction.

Sorry, didn't notice the vid... read it to quick.

Your idle is awfuly high as well. I still stand by the cb bearings or dragging clutch shoes.

Cool.. Thanks guys. Clutch springs, shoes, bearing and grease on the way.
=-)
I guess I'll have to dust off the xxxntad.

great forum!

All you want on the cb bearings is 1 drop of light oil. Any more than that and it will end up on you clutch shoes which will make it slip and ruin them.

I'd take it apart and inspect it to see whats causing the problem. Although, it's never bad to have bearings and shoes on hand...
