My first T-Maxx....is it normal to break parts every time out?

the integy shocks look and feel really silky smooth until you actually use them....they will work but you have to pretty much clean and refill them after every 5-6 tanks of running IF you don't bend a shaft...get some OFNA rear buggy shocks and run oil above 35 weight if you are jumping BIG jumps...like 6+ ft of air....run lighter oil to make it handle better.....most people say use only 4 shocks when they use these, but if you are running CVDs the a-arms (especially RPM) can flex too much and you throw a shaft....I run all 8 rear 1/8 scale buggy shocks and it kicks ass.

Ditto on that! I think I am going to run 8 shocks instead of 4 pretty soon. Those OFNA shock kick ass.

right now i am running 50wt oil on all 4 corners. i definately dont want anything that will be proned to bending like the stock shocks. Maybe running the 1/8th scale conversion with the proline by-pass.
Do you think i am being to adamit about using the proline by-pass. I just have a lot of friends with built trucks and usually a bypass does a great job with dampening.
I do hit fairly large jumps. The top of the kicker is probably only about 3-4' high but the truck see's about 6-8' of air over a 15' gap. I usually run in a park behind my house. a few guys built the jumps for their savage and nitro stampede.
I really just want to be able to go out and get a few tanks in. like i said i havent been able to get through more than a tank or so before i break something, usually the shocks, motor mount, or spur gear. now i know i can eliminate most of the motor mounts and spurgears by doing the cage but i have to get shocks now too before i can run it again. so i am trying to decide which direction i really want to go. any advice would be great as well guys. experience owns all!!! lol

Cut losses?

cut your losses with the maxx now before you sell the farm to keep it working...I got mine to stop destroying gears by replacing them with 1/8 scale diffs.....but you are looking at replacing alot of parts to make that happen......

I just bought a T-maxx 2.5 this thing is completely stock. I broke the motor mount the first time out also stripped the spur gear and the flywheel. I hit rarilroad tie that was buried in the grass, I guess I was going about 30 when I hit it.
Now would you recommend that I sell it and dish out the extra for a Revo?

For heavy handed basher like myself, the maxx just doesn't cut it. Neither did the revo for that matter. The revo took a lot less effort to make it tough enough to get through a bash day though. The maxx is a tough truck to own if you drive hard.

With the revo, RPM arms, better single steering servo, HD servo saver spring, RPM axle carriers, P2 rockers, traxxas FOC, TiNi shock shafts and your pretty much done.

With the maxx, you have to replace a lot more and even then, the drivetrain always gave me issues. Diffs, center axles, clutch/spur mostly after aluminum bulks, NE 3point roll bar, aluminum chassis rails, pro-line steering kit, RPM arms, RPM axle carriers, NE engine mount, OFNA fuel tank...

I think the only thing stock on it when I finally gave up was the 2 two speed gears, receiver case and turnbuckles. Everything else either broke or bent.

Brokne t-maxx

I broke my T-maxx the first time I ran it, broken motor mount, spur gear, flywheel, and cracked bulkhead. Funny, it's a tough little truck but something's got to give when you hit a railroad tie doing about 30 lol. I just hope that I can get a tank or 2 through it before I break something else. I haven't even started jumping yet, I was just trying to get it to shift into 2nd.
My question is, how important is a temp gauge? Should I buy an onboard unit or am I just going to break that too? O notice that after a few high speed runs it'll stall and I can't get it started back up for a few minutes, overheating?

I don't blame you, at this point I am not a heavy handed basher (YET!) I still haven't gotten a good handle on this thing, and at this point I'd rather break spur gears and junk on $200 used truck. I had planned on buying a new T-maxx, but I just might look into a Revo, or also I like the HPI Baja.

i hav a t-maxx 2.5r and it breaks alot but thats only cos i slammed it into a massive rock at about 40 and all that happened was both front suspension arms just snapped off

hbz only sells their cages and from what i hear they arent the strongest. supposedly yhey bend pretty easily. i dont want to have to continually bend it back in to shape. the new era 3 point cage is much larger dia and is solid i havent heard of anyone bending one yet
