My truck came in today..its a savage...i got some 20% gas for it and read the book...it said somethin about breakin it in...what does that mean & how do i do that...it said use a temperature gage so i got out the fever themometer so i can check the engine temperature....that book is confusing....it starts like a lawn mower but i couldnt get it to start........didnt see no wire going to the sparkplug so i think something is missing off the engine somewhere....HELP !!!!!!!!!!!

ok no wander it wouldnt start.......i gota have a battery to start it......i got a lot to learn about this thing.....that page on tuning is easier to understand than this book that came with my savage........I'm gona go in the mornin & find a hobbyshop so i can get one of them glow driver and temperature gun......hope it aint too expensive......gota take it easy on my money a week or 2 cause i just spent nearly 500 on just the truck but it did have a controller and some extra small parts........man this truck is neat......caint wait to get it goin......that book mentioned upgradeable.......what arta i get for some upgrades later ?

Which Savage did you get, WE WANT PICS!

The first upgrade every Savage needs is a better steering servo, Fasteddy has some SMOKIN DEALS on Hitec servos.

Congrats on your new rig!

found a hobby shop this mornin & got a driver & temperature meter......the owner suggested i get a extra plug or 2 so i got 2......them little plugs are kinda expensive.......i ran 2 tanks this mornin & on the 3rd tank the engine keeps dying when i take the driver off........i took out the plug and the wire coil was broke.....when it cools down I'm gona put in a new one & do some more breakin in...........that savage is cool.......loud too.........the engine is running a temperature of about 180 so far......

Mycrobug...welcome bro to the site!!

As far as your Operating temps, try to keep it above 200. The metals do not get up to correct temps for you to properly break in with anything lower.

Wrap the head of the engine with aluminum foil to help get the temps up.

Sounds like it's going well!

i have a problem....i got it broke in yesterday and leaned it out a little today....runnin about 245 temperature.....the problem is the 3 speed transmission....it aint shiftin.....what could i do to fix that ?

Does it shift from first to second but not to third or not at all? Adjusting the shift point from first to second requires opening the tranny, the shift point from second to third can be done on the outside out the tranny.

How much fuel have you run through the engine? It takes a while before the engine will loosen up and build up enough rpms to make the tranny shift.....It can sound very loud but still not turn high rpms.

The best thing to do is read the manual, if you don't have your manual go to www.hpiracing.com and find the manual, it will explain how to adjust shift points.

Probably still got it too rich?

It's getting there, just be patient. Takes a while to get one of these little motors dialed in.
Sounds like you are getting close.

i ran 7 tanks so far.....its not shifting at all......the engine manual says 250 is the optimal range for my engine.......the transmission has a double rubber plug on it that covers 2 holes......i turned it on its side and a small metal pin looking thing fell out through one of them holes......

Sounds like it's time to contact the shop you bought it from and tell them whats happening with it.

think i will....all I've done so far is the engine breakin & a little tuning.....all in a fairly flat place, no hard rough running yet....

That pin that fell out is suppose to have a set screw on top of it, that probably fell out. Id bring it in and let them know what happened. After that, them two holes covers, youll have to turn the tranny enough and youll see a gap with a small adjuster screw. Youll have toadjust it with that. And do the same in the back hole too (If its a 3 speed)

i called the hobbyshop today......they said bring it in & they will replace the transmission for free......he said it was probly a factory goofup....I'm takin it in saturday

I'm gona have a battery pack put in too while I'm at it......that box is a pain changin out AA size batteries....

Glad to hear they are going to take care of the problem let us know what they find.
