To hit 50 mph it would have to be 62/24. This is possible with off the shelf parts. The part I have trouble with is the engine would have to be pulling 35,000 RPM. Even for High rpm engines this is well over the limit and would toast the best of them. The only other options would be HUGE tires.

I do know that people have modded the transmission gear sets and made the Maxx do over 50mph but they are few and far between. I'm sure if this was the case he would have already mentioned the fact that the not only was the engine modded but a lot of other things as well.

Anything is possible but in this case I believe we have a case of mistaken speed.

Okay all I have a few questions. For one I have been doing some reading and the 2.5 Traxxas race motor has a redline of 50,000 rpms according to the tower hobbies catalog and the traxxas rep I called to answer some questions so I'm going to take their word. And to let you know it has a 26 tooth clutch bell and a 66 tooth spur gear. Dont know whats in the tranny havnt takin that apart yet. Give it time and I'm sure I will though. Okay now the motor is moded by some local guy here that does it in his garge and claims it will add a couple rpm and improve the wearing on the motor. The tires appear to be off a Savage. The picture I have is only of the radar gun at 58 and dosnt have the max in it so it really aint worth posting here because it will just add to the arquement. So I have an idea lets just pretend I never said anything about how fast it goes. And as for the starting problem It ended up being a small rip in the blue wires sheathing. Wraped it with electical tape and some shrink wrap and its good to go now. Thank you for the help and suggestions

PS Why does every thread I write something on end up with a black dot on the envolope

With my 24.7 xtm, my gearing and my jumbo kongs I can hit 50mph. But that is really pushing it and it is not very stable at that speed at all! I also have steel gearing by robinsons to take the abuse!

ChevyGuy80 - I'm experienced now with the tuning nightmare that is the TRX 2.5. It's basically what you'd call a factory mod'd .15 engine. Known mod'rs that know their chit claim they can get more power out of it which is no suprise to me. "50,000" RPM....is that what Traxxas claims for Maxx rpm's on the 2.5. Even if 50,000 is the maxx rpm on the 2.5 (seriously doubt that as the SIrio .18 is claimed @ 40,000 and whoops the 2.5's ass) you need to keep in mind that manufacturer's often make very unrealistic claims about the top engine RPM. The Sirio .18 for example is claimed @ 40,0000....well that might have had one or two engines that did 40,000 out of a ton but that doesn't in any way mean EVERY Sirio .18 is going to hit 40,000. THe rpm claim from the manufacturer is a guideline if anything. Dyno numbers are what really counts and don't ever expect your engine to RPM dyno @ what the engine company claims.

You said...."Okay now the motor is moded by some local guy here that does it in his garge and claims it will add a couple rpm and improve the wearing on the motor".

Well, this guy sounds fishy @ best. A couple rpms' isn't going to make a big difference in any Nitro engine (if any noticable difference). Hell, you can add a turbo head and turbo plug to many engines and if you lucky you'll get a couple more rpm's from that alone according to many engine makers. Properly MOd'd engines with perfectly matched porting are adding allot more then a couple RPM's. Yes, a good mod can often increase engine longevity and especially if the factoring engine has slop work in general.

You said...."The tires appear to be off a Savage". Well, assuming they are Savage size "1/8th" scale tires. THis in itself would slow down your Maxx to some extent. The tires are bigger and the bigger size and add weight and rotational mass will slow your truck down some. If you wanted to record the highest top end possible you'd want to run Pro-Line Road rage tires in standard size (not the large 40 series) or an on-road only tire of similar quality.

I'm not calling you a liar in any way. THis isn't an "arguement" (you'd know if we where argueing..lol). I'm not trying to descredit your claims for some bullchit net ego purpose..lol. I just find your claim VERY hard to believe from years of RC experience and years of experience mod'ing and tuning real race cars.

Peace
