Has anyone used these things? They are monstrous, and look like they can take a beating. One problem, the springs that were sold to me with the assurance that they would be enough...well, they aren't. They are softer than my 1/10 scale Trinity Black springs, and barely rebound the full weight of my Savage.

What I am looking for are recommended springs that are stiffer/heavier/harder (or whatever) than the MUGEN SEIKI 1/8 White springs. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Dude, I will be in your debt if you can point me to some hardcore stiff springs. I spent the better part of an evening trying to find a decent set of springs on line. The closest I can see are a set made by Trinity for the TC. Any help would be welcome.

Kyosho Whites are the stiff ones. Kyosho Blues are the softones.

Were the shocks for the MBX4 ? Just get me the dimensions of the shocks. Most 8th scale buggy parts work on a bunch of other 8th scale buggies so you may be able to just pick up a set of OFNA, Kyosho, HB etc springs.

Here is what I found on Mugen's site for the MBX4. Which springs do you have? The blue or golds?

Yeah, I have the Kyosho Blue and Blacks. Only odd part is, on that ride, they act stiff. I still can't find the dang spring chart

Maybe the blacks were stock.... I dunno

KYOC3052 IFW-32BL SHORT BLUE SPRING SOFT I5 Optional
KYOC3051 IFW-32W SHORT WHITE SPRINGS HARD I5 Optional
KYOC3054 IFW-33BL LONG BLUE SPRINGS SOFT I5 Optional
KYOC3053 IFW-33W LONG WHITE SPRINGS HARD I5 Optional

I like these as the are very nice and inexpensive and you can't beat the dual-rate setup, its so adjustable.

Shorts

and you can use the mediums if you want to drop the ride hieght a little, you just scarafice a little shock travel and it really just depends on how heavy the rig is.

The shocks are labeled as MBX XR/RR. They are rear shocks and quite beefy. I'd give you dimensions, but the manual that came with it is all in chinese and does not have a whole lot of measurements. I'll try and get an image on line this evening.

The spring, that I was sold, is 3.5 inches long uncompressed with an outer diameter of 13/16 of an inch and inner diameter of just under 3/4 of an inch.

The shock, fully extended, is just over 5 inches long.

Humboldt, those are nice looking springs..who makes them and can you provide a link?

This is what I have:

sorry about not putting a link pulled a stupid

part # GSC68024
http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=GSC68024

Those are the longs above
The mediums end in 22 instead of 24 and the shorts are 20.

If the shorts combined with the longs are not enough you could use 1 medium and 1 long on each shock. 6 springs per set and the longs are 4.99(and out of stock) If you get online and get the number from http://www.jphracing.com/Page.cfm he has them in stock I am almost sure and will ship that day for cheap.

also do you not have/want to use preload pieces on the top of the springs to take up the play?

Thanks a bunch. These are GS springs? I'll have to see if my LHS carries them.

these are very popular in the 1/8 buggy scene and hence why they popped in Christian's mind.

I don't know how hard is "hard" but kyosho does make good parts.

Also, thanks to you for the Link and thanks to Christian for the additional info. I have to check at the LHS and do a little test fit to see if the springs they have will do the job I want.

Gotta love it when you ask a question and get such thorough and timely feedback. Thanks again, everyone.

Blazer - will those springs fit on the stock Storm shocks ?

Those are for Storm shocks. And they $4.99 for any size 2 of each color. Alot cheaper then I expected. Mediums and shorts in the front, Longs and shorts in the back.

Be careful when buying springs for the Mugen shocks. There are 2 types. The regular shock with the 3mm shaft and the big bores with the 3.5mm shaft. The big bores have a larger casing than any other shock on the market and not all springs will fit around the shock casing. The white springs are the stiffest, the gray springs are medium, and the blue springs are soft.
The springs you are using now should work just find. Sounds like you need to adjust your ride height with the preload spacers. You may also want to adjust your shock oils while using these. When I switched over to the big bores they were a little bouncier so I went up in shock oil and they are great.

Thanks Razor, but the whites do not even rebound the truck to its normal ride height and that is with a pre-load spacer in. I need a stiffer spring.

Personally I usually run the same springs both front and rear or put the stiffer spring in the front. I use a lighter oil in the rear regardless of which springs I choose.

Thanks fellas for all your help. Christian and RobH, you two hooked me up. The Kyosho springs did the trick (pricey little buggers).

I am now running the Kyosho springs on all four corners. Preload spacers in place on all four corners for additional stiffness. 30wt in the front and 35 wt in the rear.

And after today's bash session I am very pleased.
