A friend of mine has this buggy, and has traction issues.
The rear is sliding out and the front is not hooking up well.
So here is my question.
What is the best oil combo for a loose track?

So what's the matter, can't this "friend" of yours man up and ask for himself? What, is he too ascared to admit he has no clue what he is doing. Hell, maybe the problem is the driver, not the buggy, lol. :D

He's not home yet, he's still driving.
Hell, I don't have the answer either, and neither do you...

Sounds like your rear diff is using too light of an oil. Do you know what wieght they are filled with?

Stock set up from the manual.

Hmmm I never followed that nor did I care since I actually like the rear end to swing around with the blip of the gas and brake. I have actually used 3-7-1(F-C-R). I have tried 5-5-3 but my style is just to bash.

Our track can get pretty loose at times. Right now I have 5-7-3, but I might take some advice I got last night from some previously sponsored Mugen drivers and go to 5,000 in the middle diff. How are your friends camber links and shock positions?

Run Ashton's setup from the 04' nats and drive the thing. Thats the best setup there is for the mugen.

Easy there killer... I just got done doin a 300mile round trip, in traffic...
Oh, and "ascared" is not a word ya redneck... lol

Yes, I am the "friend" Ratzo is talking about.. The track was extremely loose, and it was like an ice skating rink out there.. I was having trouble getting the front wheels to hook up.. On the gas too quickly would put me in a spin. I want to change the diff/shock fluids, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a loose track.

This is my setup right now:

f/c/r diffs 7k / 10k/ 2k

front-------------------------------------------

front lower a-arms , rear=1 degree block, front all the way up....
front top arms, rear=lower, front =all the way up..
front tracking width =282mm
front =2 degrees camber,
front ackerman = center.
front caster =2 small shims up front , 1big spacer in rear............

no shims under ackerman

Front-shocks,
45 wt oil , w/ 1.5mm pistons
grey springs
Top of shock one in from outer most hole.
Bottom of shock, outer hole.

Rear --------------------------------
rear a-arms,,,,, rear mount-toe-block=3 degrees, fr-block-anti-squat=1 degree .
hubs=center on spacing (front to rear)
hubs=lower hole mount, (no universal binding)
rear-upper link, inner mount=inner lowest hole, outer mount=upper outer hole..

Rear-shocks
40 wt oil w/1.5mm pistons(same as front note on piston hole), grey springs.
top of shock one in from outer most hole.
bottom of shock, inner hole.

What tires??
I found panther step pins to hook up real well on hard packed tracks w/ loose stuff on top, as well as loose thick stuff....and how stiff do you make the rear sway bar?

Dude that 10k is killing you. throw 5 in the front and 7 in the center. Should help out alot.

I was running the Treadz Grip tires. The track is a mess, very loose, bumpy dry dirt. Ratzo was out there wetting it down as much as possible, but there is alot ground to cover.. Basically dried up within minutes..

So your saying 5/7/2 would be good? Mugen oils? How about shock oils weights?
Your help is appreciated guys.. It's pretty frustrating when your buggy is running great, and you can't control the damn thing... lol

I like to watch it smack every pipe and overshoot every turn too......people think it's my bad driving style...but they don't know I really want it to drive all spastic like that....SHHHHHHH don't tell anyone.....

Hell yeah dump the 10k...I thought you were doing the 5-5-3.....I like 5-7-1,2 or 3 depending onthe track...if I go to 3k in the rear I bump the front and center up a lil too....7-10-3 I'd run on real grippy tracks that you can rail turns on...or on tracks w/ long straights....

I run all Mugen oils in mine. My diffs are actually set up 5-7-2 not the 5-7-3 I posted earlier(sorry). I run Mugen oils in the shocks, 400 in the front and 350 in the rear. So, supposedly that's like 36(Associated) in the front and 33(Associated) in the rear.

Thanks for the great input guys.. I was searching all the different racing forums, and I came across this post...

As far as diff oils. If there is plenty of traction, try 5/7/2 or 5/10/2. If it is really loose then 5/7/1 or even 3/5/1

Sound right?

I personally liked 5-7-3 with 450 in all of the shocks. All mugen oils. With ashton's setup on every other aspect of the car, it was the easiest buggy I have ever driven around the track. Very predictable.

That setup sounds great, but you never said what kind of track conditions you were on.. Will that setup be good for a loose, bumpy track?

I used it everywhere. Never changed it. Maybe tried some different tires, but never changed the setup. Just drove the car, and it's actually 5-7-2 now that I looked. 3 in the rear would probalby make it a bit easier to drive.

just go to mugenracing.com and look at the setup sheets section. Go to either vegas setups or action rc setups and look at ashton's sheets. They are all the same. Regardless of track.

I already printed out all the setup sheets from Mugenracing... lol Some of the sheets didn't have the track conditions filled in, so I kinda thought, being pro's, that they were most likely racing on well groomed hard packed tracks... I think I'll take your advice, and go with a 5/7/2 setup. This combo has been mentioned quite a bit on this, & several other forums.. Thanks for all the help guys...
