Well, I've had a MS filter for a few years and I've always liked how well it allows the engines to breath. 2 years ago, the cap came off the end of the filter and it cost me an OS 21RG. MS sent me a new cap that had longer legs so it wouldn't fall out. I installed it recently on a XTM 24.7 that has barely a gallon through it.

I noticed it was running weird today in my aftershock. I had just installed the engine to see how it did in the aftershock to see what kind of backup engine I had. It did ok, but didn't have as much off the line as the stock M26SS engine. But it ran good, so I left it in. I ran it yesterday at a MX track for about 45 minutes of run time, then I ran it today for about another 30 minutes before it started stalling. I couldn't figure out why. As soon as I'd take of the heater, it would run about 3 seconds, then stall. So, I installed a new GP. Then it seemed to clear up, for about 20 minutes... then it started stalling again. And I broke my pull-start.

So, I went home, pulled the engine, took off the air filter to get it out of the way so I could work on the PS... and I notice a nice pile of dirt inside the carb... and the exhaust port... the whole inside of the engine looks like I hit it with a wire brush. There's almost no pinch left... on an engine that has had no more than a gallon through it.

It might last a while, but my guess is it's pretty much dead. I've cleaned it, buffed the sleeve, rinsed the entire engine and bearings out.

I don't know what happened to the filter. It looks normal. Had oil on it. No more MS for me. Apparently they need more maintenance than I'm willing to do.

man trhat realy sucks to hear , thats what I'm running now , have you thought of another filter choice , i dont want to take any chances either

Well, I really only ran the MS and whatever OS includes with their big blocks. It seems to be a pretty good filter and I have a couple of them. I have one on my revo and now I will use the other on the AS.

i can't say that i have had any problems with my ms, but i might keep an eye on it just incase dirt does get into the carb and eat up my engine,

That really sucks to hear. I just use the normal MS with the prefilter. Maby thats way my 2.5 took a crap so soon, after I pulled it there was a cut from the spur gear in the neck. :constipat What do you mean you buffed the sleve though, I have heard of this before and never knew what it ment.

MS have been good to me. I like to run a bigger Prefilter. That way I an pinch the pre filter on both ends. You may want to do that or just go to a different brand.

I had a problem I was using MS filter in the and my sons 1/8 buggy and one day during a heat my motor stalled and the cap had come off, not good, there went my V-spec. I like the performance of the filter but they have to come up with a more secure way to attach the cap.

Thats weird, I never really had the problem of even the cap falling off but I did get the updated version anyway.

That sucks that its happened more than once, I would hate to lose such a new engine to something like a few grains of dirt.

IMO ms is the biggest waste of money out there. Why do you think that none of the racers use them?

Get yourlsef any basic filter holder, oil the innerfilter and run an oiled pre filter and you won't have any problems. You won't even notice the difference that the "more air flow" the ms has.

You might as well remove the filter all together, and claim massive airflow.

I ran my s-25 savage without an airfilter at all for atleast 10min./1tank.Filter came off without me noticing, that was about 4 gallons ago!It had alot of crud and goo in the carb so I pulled the engine down and cleaded it real good like you. It didnt effect my p/s like yours, still a good pinch and have about 7 gallons through her now,she still flips it on its lid from a dead stop and eats diffs so no power/life lost in my situation? Maybe yours will go back together and run solid and last for you too.

i've lost a few mills to MS filters... thats why motorsaver has adopted the nick "motor wreckers" and motor killers in the past years.

LOL, why on earth would you lose a "few" mills to a MS?? Would only take one for me!

Nothing wrong with the basic standard filters.

I use them as I have not had the problem. I use those as well as OS filters. IMO the OS does the job just as well with a pre filter. My needles did not need any major changes.

I have both caps with the "nubs and the longer legs on my MS's.

I'm a racer in that I go and race. I wouldn't say I'm quite "competitive" yet, but I'm getting there!

I have an MS filter on my P5 and an OS on my V-Spec. So far, no problems, but I think I'll take Jon2's advice on pinching the ends, just to be safe.

Hope it works out for ya, Olds. It's a bummer!

I'm running the MS on my FT TC4 and haven't had any issues YET.. :D

What the hell, tc4 with a nitro motor. Either you have a inside scoop or are a good micky mouser at puting a nitro in a electric lol.

I haven't had any problems with my motor saver on my revo but i never have ran it in really dusty areas(I've never used a outer filter element).
Besides the cap falling off would someone tell me whats so bad about them that causes them to be so bad and let so much dirt in?
Thanks!
