Motorsaver filter for 1/8 Buggy?

I have never heard of there being a problem wit Motorsavers, but on another forum people are telling me never run my engine with it because it lets dirt slide in becuase it does not have a tube in the center or something, and there is 4 people telling me this which is why I am taking this seriously. It'll be on my Collari and I don't want to risk it. Has anyone else heard of problems with the Motorsaver buggy airfilters?

A motorsaver air filter is actually a three stage filter. It has a screen mesh outside of an oiled foam filter with a pre-filter over all of that. I have never had a problem with any of my Motor Saver air filters, its the only filters I use. So what are these four other people recomending you use instead?

I have 2 motorsavers and love them. They are a three stage. The only problem i have ever heard of is the cap popping out, which has never happend to me.
I wanted to try something new so i orderd the newer ofna filter, which has a tube in the middle. The ofna is bigger and i like it a little better than the motor saver. It tends to stay cleaner, and is easier to clean the the motorsaver. The Ofna is also cheaper, amd comes with a shorter airfilter tube so it fits nicely on 1/8th scale buggies. However the ofna has come loose where it connects to the tube, so i just made my zip tie tighter. Either are great airfilters imo.

PiErow, thanks for the link. If I decide to use a different filter I may try that Ofna one.

use an ofna, kyosho, TTR, Xray, or GS filter. they all have tubes in the center, and solid caps on either end. 2 stage is the safest bet. i dont trust motorsavers for the very reasons you listed and a few others. RB filters are iffy too, if you dont prepare them properly, they have to have the lower cap epoxied and sealed in place.

I use the OS filters and haven't had any issues w/ dirt getting in my mills...the only thing I'm not 100% on, is the newer versions ones have a real soft neck....it hasn't popped off but it just doesn't "feel" right....

Well do you guys think I should use the Motorsaver I have now or try something else? I am getting mixed thoughts and I don't want to ruin my Collari...:shrug:

I personally don't use the motosaver for the same reasons. I've been running an ofna filter since I got my buggy with no problems and no dirt getting through.

I've got three motor savers myself, but they're the OLD ones that don't look like stock 8th scale 'bobbers'. I love 'em, wouldn't run without 'em.

if i ever get off my lazy ass ill take a pick of the crank from a savage i have. the original owner used a motorsaver, and while he is a damn smart guy and takes care of his stuff(personal friend). the filter failed miserably and you should see the score marks on the crank from the dirt it let through

I was looking at my filter today and I just don't see where the dirt can get through...

the lid can come off and leave your motor unprotected,
if there is too much oil and or dirt in the element, the suction can collapse the filter and allow dirt in underneith it,
the outer element is pointless since the end of the filter is left exposed.
just an fyi, every preoiled motor saver filter I've seen has been over oiled. allowing problem #2 to happen. if you gimme till tomorrow night ill get that crank pic up. it really is a sight. and the motor ALWAYS had a motorsaver on it.

Oh, I see that now, the screen could come off easily, and then you would have no filter what so ever. Do you think that Ofna one PiErow linked me too would be good? I want to get a filter and a set of proline badlands all in one order, so I found some good deals at Nitrohouse, anywhere else have some good deals? I fould the filter 4 badlands and 4 wheels for under $60, I think it was $58.
