Hey Guys,

I am curious as to if you can go back to conventional motor oil once you have run full synthetic? Thanks

Tom

I've always heard the rumor that it would ruin your engine, when I had mine changed at Jiffy Lube I asked them and they said that it shouldn't. Try switching to half synthetic for a few oil changes and then go to regular.

There should be no adverse reaction, allthough I would surely think there would be a change in performance. I have made the switch, and the car I just got ran on Synthetic for most of it's life till now. I haven't noticed anything wrong at this point, so you should be fine.

I've heard some stories about it too. But if ya think about it... Buy a used car, 20 or 30 thousand miles even. How do ya know what oil was used in it. Or how many different brands were in it for that matter.

it wont hurt it, however you will lose gas mileage, power, and it might not idle as smoothly as it used to either. its going from conventional to sythetic that causes people problems. the reason is the conventional oil leaves residue and build up inside the engine. over time those buildups continue to seal shrinking rubber seals inside the engine. after that has happened, going to sythetic will clean out those residues and expose possible leaks at places like the front and rear main seal, cam seals, etc.
