i have a tmaxx and it still has the plastic spur gear and i was jux wondering if putting a metal spur gear was worth it. i have heard that metal spurgears make a bunch of noise when you're driving it and that it wears not only your spur gear but also you're cb, is this true.thanx. :)

IMO i think it would put wear on the CB because most CB's are aluminum and the spur gear is steel. I also heard that(if not allowed to slip enough) the steel spur gear can cause damage to the crankshaft on hard landings.

A metal spur gear on a stock maxx cb won't last very long. I ran the RRP spur on my maxx with the stock 20T cb and it chewed it up in one weekend. Then I got an RRP cb and didn't have wear problems anymore.

I only ran metal on my 21 maxx. On my 18/2.5 chassis maxx, I always ran plastic and I'd run kimbrough spurs. They seemed to hold up longer and get teeth chipped off less often. I'd easily make it through a few gallons before messing up a spur. Normally, the only time I'd chew one up is when an engine mount cracked or engine mount bolts rattled out.

Stick with plastic. Cheap week point in the drive train. It's easier to swap out a spur than it is to rebuild a tranny or diff.

Exactly what I was going to say. You need a 'weak' point in the drive train that's also cheap to replace.

Yeah, the stock cb's don't hold up to the hardend steer spurs. If you do end up getting a steel spur, get an rrp cb.
