Metal 2-speed gears

I've been looking and I can't find 'em. the only metal gears I find are the top shaft and the primary gears.. there must be a reason behind this. I was thinking that it has something to do with which gear is carrying the torque. (the 4 I stated) The gears that follow those spin freely until there clutch kicks in. But I really don't know why.. I'm sure somebody will sooner or later

A company called OTB made them but, they cost way to much (somthing like $275 or more) and they went out of business. You can find trannys on Ebay from time to time that have these gears and other upgrades but, again go for big money $200++! You don't need the 2 speed gears to be metal. If you are going through 2 speed gears it is more then likely a problem with the case or a bad bearring or one of the other gears fraging out and taking out the other ones. I have 2 trannys with all metal gear except the 2 speed and have never had a problem running Big blocks (Fantom .27 and Ofna .25's).

the reason they arnt metal is becasue they are so big. each tooth receives much less stress because there are much more of them than on say the primary gear.

if you are destroying these gears the problem is most likely you gearmesh which would be messed up due to a flexing or cracked tranny case.

I haven't had any problems with my gears but I just wanted to build a bulletproof tranny. I've also been looking into the OTB sets but can't seem to find them anywhere. If anyone knows of a place to get them please let me know.

OTB is out of business so, the only place you can get them is from someone that is parting out one of there Maxxs. My tranny is as close to bulletproof as you can get without the OTB 2 speed gears. I have yet to have a problem and one of my trannys is 1.5yrs old!

I agree with the above posters. I went with RRP steel for everything I could in the trans and haven't since had a gear shell out on me. Only a bearing behind the spur. I have 3 gallons through the trans since I put in the RRP gears. I can't imagine your going to get much better results even with aluminum gears.

my dad (a lead machinest for Excel power plant) is making all my gears for me! He-he

where did u get those at can u get them in a set or what??

If you care about weight and spool up, get the aluminum. If you don't, then go with what I posted. I can't remember who, but someone bought, installed and shredded thier aluminum stuff. They posted pics of it as well. It wasn't pretty.

The steel held up really well.
