merv motor and esc gettin hot

hey guys i just put a basically new esc on my MERV ( i got it from flmsavage) and it seems to be gettin hot pretty quick. i really not doing high speed runs. i'm just running it in the yard while my dog chases it...lol a sight to see!!! anyways, i'm curious if the gearing i have in it could be contributing to this. i have a 45 tooth spur gear and the stock high speed pinion in it, and now that i am writing this, this didn't start to happen till i put the 45 tooth spur in it. could that be causing it?

just put a 55 tooth spur on it, but kept the same pinion. lets see if this helps

just took the merv out and it didn't over heat at all, so i guess the gearing i had in it was making it over heat. anyways, she's good now
