Yeah hook us up w/some pics. I'm considering an MBX 5 sometime after X-Mass. I wanna know how durable it is.
 
I would claim it to be quit durable, unless you go 40 MPH, or so into a yard roller holding somewhere around 50 gal. of water.

Someone help with the math if I'm not correct.

50 Gal. of water = 400+/- pounds

Yeah, I don't think an 8 pound buggy had a chance.

I'll see what I can do about the pics, but I don't have a digi cam, and last time I tried to upload a pic it didn't work. ???
 
hyperdonrc Yes i have to convert everything roughly into american sizes dollars, and speeds, there are some of you people on here that are just not that switched on :)))))) kidding just keeps it all in perspective allthough i got to admit the conversions on gallons to ltrs vary depending on what country it in (how the hell does that work as far as I'm concerned a Gallon is a Gallon)

sorry to hear the disturbing news. thats gotta suck. no buggy would have lived through a wreck like that.
oh btw- would that be US or UK gallons? looks like you were close with your numbers. here is the exact weight. lol. there IS a difference mike! (though not much til you figure large quantities) j/k ya

50 Gallons [US] = 417.2632055 Pounds
50 Gallons [UK] = 501.1122134 Pounds
 
Mike- No idea why US, and UK gallons are differant. Personally, I think we all should have converted to metric in the 80's when (I think since I was just a kid, and remember them talking about it at elem. school) they talked about it. Just makes to much sence to be on the same page as the rest of the world I guess.

Flash- I just went with 8 punds a gallon, because that is what I was tought a gallon of milk weighs though I'm sure that isn't exact either.

Husky- I've heard of mbx5parts.com before, but I already ordered from nitrohouse. I'll check them out in the future though. It looks like they are about a buck cheaper per part, which if nothing else would pay for shipping.

What do you guys think about the brass bushings a mbx5parts.com?
Pros, and cons? Those are one item demolished in the wreck, but I wouldnt want to move the damage onto the nest part, which would be the allum. hinge pin brace, or shock tower. Also, assuming that there won't be anothe crash of this magnitude, how do you think they would wearbeing such a soft metal?
 
i considered the brass bushings but after weighing the pros and cons myself i decided to stray from them.
the stock bushing set is like $4. i keep 3-4 sets on hand most of the time. they are pretty easy to change so i do it often. the first time i ever changed them they were pretty loose, so when the new ones were put in i could tell the car was tighter when driving it. this is why i keep them on my regular maintenence schedule. lower arms are the same way- a little more expensive- but well worth the peace of mind imo. at the first sign of wear- i replace them. semi worn arms can be easily sold to other inexperienced racers who dont care so much about having their car 'perfect' so its fair to say a set of arms only costs me an average of about $5-6 a set.

now consider the brass bushings. they are much more expensive. do you really want to let them wear out completely before replacing them? if you do then go ahead and get them- its your money and your buggy. if you want your buggy to be its best at all times just stick with the stock ones and save that money for beer or whatever. i can see why someone came up with the idea of using brass, but its not for me. you know...all that extra weight...lol.

the proper name for the british gallon is "imperial gallon" why they use it :shrug:
 
Corrado Problem with that is their imperial measurement system is the original, you yanky type fullas went and changed it to be different :P everyone should have changed to the far superior metric system by now any how!!!!
 
can't say your wrong, or that i dissagree. id love for our bass akwards country to convert to metric, it would make my life a whole lot easier when working on my VW and my RC cars. one of the reasons i got rid of my losi, was i had to buy all new tools just to work on it.
 
I'm late to this discussion and certainly not a racer, but I would like to add that the MBX-5 is a beast and has plenty of qualities that any racer would like.

If you drop in a suitably beefy engine, you can do wonders with an MBX-5 (standard or PROSPEC).

I have two MBX-5s that are almost full PROSPEC via the hop-up method. One is powered by a RB S-7 Europa the other by an RB S-5. Both haul the mail and both fly well.

Long one (27.8MB) with several RCs jumping. The MBX-5 is at time index 1:47, 1:49, and 1:59 near the end. CLICK HERE

The only damages suffered from bad landings on the large jumps were a couple of sheared shock shafts and a snapped lower a-arm at the hinge pin. All replaced in the field. Notice that the buggy drives off after each landing in all but the nose into dirt landing.

The most durable buggy i've seen run. I'm seen a friend go end over end countless times and submerge the buggy totally underwater ( which i dont recomend anyone to do) and all you can see was the tail and bubbles coming from the exhaust. He dried the electronics and kept running. Got lucky.
 
I'm in no way downplaying the MBX-5, incase that was the impression you got. Can't wait for the parts to get here! Sky you are absolutely correct. It flies like a dream. By the way nice buggies, and you should check out the rear upper A-arms next. The have a little crook to them, so it isn't so close to the inside edge of the rims. Jon2 those chasis braces are sick, and for the shock towers, if you don't want Prosec ones, I though the ones at the mbx5parts.com looked good. Just my opinion.

Thanks Blazer. The lower one is formerly FlyinRazorBack's. The HR Bash was the first drive after I received it. That thing flew and flew and flew...

Thanks Jon2. The parts you showed were the first two I upgraded on my first MBX-5. Then I went to the towers and a few other parts.

:D You downplaying the MBX-5? No way, no how...
Thanks for the thought on the rear upper A-arms. The stockers do tend to run close to the rim. So far, I haven't had a problem with them. Will have to check out the upgraded parts.
