I'm torn between the two, i keep reading about the xb8 shattering their adjustment spacer things and then thats it ur outa the race and i want dependability.. what are your guys veiws on each of these buggys? and if i get a nromal mbx5 what would i need to upgrade so it lasts?

Had an mbx5, pretty tough right out of the box, and a proven winner. I would get the x5 if it is cheaper, but if price was the same I would probably go for the Xb8, just for something different. The mugen is a great buggy and can be found at pretty good prices with great parts availability and lots of hopups, some hopups can be found used.

price between the two doesn't matter i just want somethignt hat will last and is ready to go wih the least hopups but durability is the main thing

Have his MBX5 now. I love the options available to it. no runs yet but I have gone over it well to know its weak points and strong points. I have opted to get the racers edges towers, prospec rear tension bar mount along with both prospec tension bars. I have also changed the shock oil to my liking and also the diff fluid.

I think that MBX5 is a strong competitor. No knowledge of the XB8 but hey the MBX5 was once the New Kid On the Block.

I say mbx5, but when you say reliable, I think kyosho. :D The xray just isn't proven yet.

I own two very reliable and very tough MBX-5s. The first one I purchased and hopped up into a darn near PROSPEC version. It was tough as nails out of the box, but I tend to be a bit extreme with my RCs and beefed it up out of habit. The second one I purchased off of a racer from RCNT (FlyinRazorBack). He had already hopped it up into near PROSPEC status.

You can see info about my twin MBX-5s in this post CLICK HERE

Trust me when I say the MBX-5 is plent tough. Check the vids in the post from above and you'll see what I mean.

go for the prospec, i would have if i had more money, the xb8 are too new for my taste

crzy-svg-usr, I think I remember you from another board. You and your dad were at HobbyHut last summer right? We pitted next to you that one day. I think you may recall the conversation.

Anyway, I have an MBX5. The day we pitted next to you, I broke seconds before the first heat. I had to sit there and watch my son race cause the hobby shop didn't have parts (didn't have ANY parts for the mbx5). Sucks to drive 2 hours each way just to be let down by a broken part.

Go to the hobby shop and see what they stock. I know for a fact that Hobby Hut stocks Kyosho parts. That's what Jamie and the other big boys at Hobby Hut run. Maybe just get a standard MP 7.5 or 777 buggy. At least you can buy parts WHEN you break (they all do).

I donno, maybe they stock xb8 parts, but I haven't a clue.

yea thats me i remember

was just there they had a wall of mugen stuff didnt really look at em tho

they carry xray stuff i saw 4 things on the wall for their 1/18 or whatever car

yea t does suck goign 2 hours just to break it

was yours standard? I'm still unsure of what to get and xmas is almost here! lol

Just as important as checking to make certain your LHS carries plenty of parts, is the fact that you should also stock up on spare parts. I'm not a racer, but my "pit box" is full of MBX-5 spare parts in the case that my crazy bashing gets something broke. As bigfreak pointed out, it will happen. Note, it will happen regardless of what buggy you have. Yes, some are more prone to breakage than others...but as stated in another thread on consistancy in this hobby...careful maintenance, set-up, and planning can give you a better running and stronger ride...and help prevent parts breakage.

Just some food for thought...

Crazy, I thought you already bought the XRAY?? DOnt worry about parts you can just stock up on a few spares from Stormerhobbies! They have all the XB8 parts in stock now. My hobby shop stocks alot of mugen, K stuff and will have some XB8 parts too, but no matter what I may break they will not have it???

What hobby shops stock is not a priority for me at all, Thats what the internet is for and its always cheaper...

i gave it back :D i didnt want another 600 doller mistake------ gs storm wow what a mistake i just wanna do it right the first time

Wife's, cousin's, aunt's, sister-in-law's, friend's...... LOL!!!!!!! Sorry, that just came out. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good price, but I would go with the Prospec if you get a Mugen. Don't know anything about the XB8, except what I read on here, but if I were you I wouldn't count out the new Thunder Tiger S3. That thing is sick, and everyone will be envious. Or, at least I will! :2cents:

I think the mugen stuff they have (at least what they had last summer) was for Mugen cars other than the MBX5. When I asked one of the Hobby Hut guys if they had my mbx5 part, he said they didn't have any for that buggy. It would be sweet if they started stockin mbx5 parts, Hobby Hut is a nice track and I'd feel a little better about driving that far.

Yeah mine is standard except a couple parts that I upgraded.

Yeah, if you can round up all the spares, you'll be better off. I had a hard go of it. I ended up ordering most stuff from Nitro House, but not without trying my hobby shop first. I often didn't have enough spares and broke stuff that sunk me for the day.

hmm mayb ill just talk my parents into the prospec and pay for some... just bought a ws7II though only had to sell one car to get it :D lol. thats sad an engine for a car o well it must be done. it seems whenever i buy a kit that hobbyhut doesn't have it then 3 weeks later when i break something they r stocking it lol
