I've seen a lot of praise for the following buggies, which is the better one for value, durability and performance:

Mayhem
Storm
SWIFT
X-Terminator
Hyper 7 PBS/PCR (lay down servo shouldnt affect our review)?

Curious what people think. I understand the Mayhem is quite new, but the review they gave that buggy is RC Driver was quite impressive. All these buggies feature in the range of up to the mid 500s in price.

I have to go with the Hyper 7 PCR. I have one, Its fast as hell and can take a beating like no other. I have yet to break anything. Jumps with 5-8 ft of air and 15-25 feet of distance takes it and keeps on flying! The laydown servo works fine for me, but I know no other. The only flaw to the stock pcr is the steering servo, it works but it sucks. They Hyper 8 port screams like a raped ape! Temps between 220-235 and it absoutly screams, and if you lean it to about 250 its stupid fast. Just my observations!

Like a raped ape huh?........

Anyway, I've heard nothing but good things about the hyper buggies. And, yea, the stock steering servo sux.

I've also heard good things about the X-terminator, but I'd reccomend the hyper buggies due to racability, and part availability.

I'm interested in the mayhem. Give it a few months and most hobby shops should be carring parts for them. I recently saw 3 in action at the 14th annual Kyosho Challenge last sunday, and they were pretty impressive.

You can get the Storm Pro for a decent price now and it's an excellent buggy with some really "pro" features. Without an engine and radio, the Storm Pro won't be cheap but it's a nice ride. I'll stand my Storm Pro up to a Hyper 7 or Mugen any day - not that these are bad buggies at all - just that the Pro comes stock with nearly every hopup there is, it's smooth, and it's tough. I like to let guys at the track drive it (I'm the only one with a Storm) because nobody realizes how nice it is to drive until they do it. I get a lot of surprised looks =)

I dunno about the others. I think the Swift is a nice machine after you address some of the common issues. I've seen many Hyper buggies and they seem nice too, although a lot of the folks that buy the PCR tend to replace a lot of the parts - Like, putting on C Hubs, switching to a stand up servo, etc. Almost everyone at the local track has done work like this to their Hyper 7's. They replace the engines pretty quick too =/ The Hyper 8-port doesn't seem like the most reliable engine - I've seen three of them blow this year, after only a gallon or so.

It's up to you.

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you purchase, if that is your intention. Buggies rule.

i have the x-terminator, and so far i love it. the engine is reliable like no other, and is powerful as all hell. the durability on this buggy (i have the deluxe) is also topnotch. the only things i have broken are the steering servo (which sucks), and my pull-start broke. i highly recomend it. however, i've also heard great things about the hyper buggies, and the review you talked about in rc driver about the mayhem also makes it sound really good. you can't really go wrong with any of the buggies you mentioned, i just mentioned what i thought were the best of your picks

Ya, the Mayhem has more features at a better price. It's just no one has really tried to abuse it like the hyper buggies have been abused. I plan on getting the Mayhem ARR once parts availability is good, and if it's durable.

buggy

Ya it looks like sportwerks did their homework to come up with the mayhem series buggies...very nice setup....but I wont be buying one till I see it at the local track or atleast take a good beating and want more! :boxing: ....I do own a hyper7 pcr and have put this buggy through hell and I've never had any major problems...I put a Werks picco .26 in it and all I can say is its BADASS!!

I have the storm original and it takes a huge beating although it does not want to hold rune worth a damn

I'm more confused now than when I started the thread. Everybody has good things to say, got to narrow down the choices more.

Ok, here's my simplified advice:

At the present time: Hyper PBS (not PCR) gets my vote.

In a few months: The mayhem (if there is good parts availability, and after a few more good reviews)

And here's my simplified vote: If you're looking for someone to decide for you, you'll be waiting for a long time.

My .02 is go with the hyper 7 pbs. The pillow ball suspension is unbreakable and in my opinion more consistent. I put mine though the paces and nothing has broken yet. I have several buddies who have bought xtm's and storms and have broken parts on the first day. Both of the other buggies are good buggies but out of the box the PBS tore them up. That hyper 8 port so far has been easy to tune and very reliable. Runs at cool temps and like a bat of hell. Be prepared to upgrade steering servo and putting in heavier shock oil. Also I put a different air filter to get more air to the carb and that motor woke up like grandma on sunday morning. It is a mad man now and severely stomps the other buggies. Out of the other two buggies I do like the storm as a second best IMO. Which MO isn't worth much.

well what about a swift? those look really nice to me. i have a storm and i love it... parts availability has been good for me, and it takes any engine i put in it without any problems at all. the drivetrain is just about bullet proof. i think i'm about to put the dynamite mach .26 in it just for fun. seems like it's a good engine. ummm... the mayhem looks good, but if you were to buy it then you should wait until the parts avail. is good, nothing sucks more than having a broken a arm and not being able to run because it's not in stock. the hyper series of buggies are good but i would stay away from the pillow ball susp. if you aren't a veteran racer. O yeah... the x term... i wouldn't even begin to look at one of those. XTM has great customer service for the same reason hyundai has america's best warranty... they both need it. I would say to go with the storm pro or the hyper 7 pcr and use the c hub suspension.

i'm out like a boner in spandex... later
