Hey guys and girls. I just purchased 2 7 turn Holmes Hobbies Cobalt pullers for my crawlers, and backed one up with a Mamba Max ESC (all brand new)
Having bound the receiver I went to calibrate the speedie, but when I try the most I get is jerky fwd/rev on the motor, like its not turning a full revolution. I tried both motors, they both do the same, and I tried with a fresh charged battery, (3s lipo)
Any suggestions on what this may be?
(I did notice the audible sound that normally accompanies the CC speedies during setup is non existant, but the lights work fine)

I have no problem using my Mamba Max with my 7T Puller.
I would have to say it is not set-up properly if you don’t get the audible chimes upon start up.

I used the Castle Link to set the esc up and then set-up my transmitter after it was installed in the rig.

If you have done everything properly, you may have a bum controller and should call Castle’s and see if they can help.

Make sure all of your end points are zeroed out before trying to program it, I had that problem before.

I run the same exact setup and had no problems.

Here's what I have programmed

Forward to brake to reverse
Brake Amount: 90 percent
Reverse Throttle 100 percent
Punch Control:Disabled
90 percent drag brake
Start Power: High
Motor Timing: Normal
Motor Type:Brushed Reversing (not hogh power brushed)
Arming Time: 1.5 Seconds
Throttle Deadband: Average

I know that some of the setup sounds that are used with brushless motors don't happen with the brushed motors, I've run across several discussions on the forum about this, but I don't know if that is the same sounds that you're referring to.

It almost sounds like the control might be in brushless mode, but I'm not sure. Some of the older Spektrum radios and the Castle ESC's have a conflict and you have to download a hotfix from Castle I think, but I've never had the problem so I'm not sure if that could be it, I've just seen people talk about it on the forum.

If I were you, I would call John Robert Holmes. He's the best one I know of to talk to about problems like that, and he's an awesome guy about helping people out. He also is a liscensed distributor for Castle, and can probably help get the problem straightened out if there is a problem with the ESC as he has a good foot in the door.

I might try full programming first.
The problem I encountered is with default settings, and am running a DX3R.
I havent yet programmed at all except the obligatory learning of the endpoints on startup. The rest is AS IS.
I will look further. Thanks

Thanks guys. After programming it (to Charlies settings) she is working perfectly.
Thanks for all your help. I was starting to sweat it a little.....

I believe Castle ESCs come set for Brushless motors (so when they sell them with a motor they a plug-and-go). My Sidewinder did exactly the same, I had to hook it to the PC (holy moly was I glad I bought a CastleLink!) and set it to 'Brushed Reversing'.

The mamba maxx comes with a USB port on the side of it, and the castle software. Download the software, and plug her in, check all of the stuff. +1 about what webbage said, it comes preset for a brushless motor.

Ok. Now she's running, but faster in reverse than forward. The book says to reverse the motor wires, but does that mean swap red for black motor wires or swap red for white motor wire. (white isn't normally used with brushed reversing)

That would probably be red and black. thats the good thing about the mamba's, they have an internal failsafe for there electronics, if somthing isnt connected right, it wont move, so try red and black first, and if that dont work, experiment a lil.

epa's all good? alpine likes to set his at 60 and start threads about low power. :)
