Is it posible? Buy all the parts and hardware and replace stock parts with aftermarket parts and just build a T-maxx from the ground up? I think it's a bit cheaper than buying the RTR. What do all of you think?

I'm not sure about it being cheaper than a RTR,maybe cheaper than purchasing a RTR and upgrading everthing, but yes it is possible, lots of aftermarket you dont even need a traxxas part!

Look in RC Car Action Buyers Guide. They have a complete T-Maxx in all aftermarket parts. The Viper rims are the best part though.

i was seriously considering doing something like that...but then thought about how much it would cost since i would want everything to be the best quality, and then decided against it

I'm sure there's a few members on here, including myself, that have built a 2nd Maxx from all there stock parts that were replaced by aftermarket goodies... lol

Is that where mine came from IB?

BTW you would be proud it's in killer shape. New bellcranks, skids (fr and rear) new clutch. new clutch bell New tires2.5 wide maxx setup... ;)

Lots more on order headed this way monday ;)

Actually, your Maxx belonged to BigBadWolf at one time... lol We both had intentions of making it into a hopped up monster, but the $$ just wasn't there at the time... Glad to hear your Maxx is back in 1 piece...

Is this a rheotorical question. Of course you can...Maxx people like myslef Joke about it all the time....lol. Comments like "All you need from the T-maxx is the diffs and tranny". The aftermaxx suppport for the Maxx goes from Wild-Wilder-Inane...lol. I've built a 2.5 Maxx with stock Blue Chassis from leftover parts alone.

As for it being Cheaper.....that's not gonna happen compared to a stock 2.5 Maxx. But if you do it right it should be a hellava lot stronger and better performing. You can completely map out how you want your truck to be and how well the parts will play together.

yea... the .21 conversion left me with a pile of stock parts and instead of letting them go to waste, i figured i'd build another one.

I've been thinking and wouldnt Traxxas making a 1/8 tmaxx kit be cool? I mean a total new design. And high dollar parts. I think they'd make a killer earning on that kind of truck.

Make a thread in the maxx forum on that. I think if they made a 1/8th period it would be killer. anyways that's :OT:

I have done what you are asking but it's somewhat more expensive to buy one in that manner although if built properly will undoubtably be much better.

I bought my 1st T back in Apr. '99, hopped it up oover time and then parted it out. My 2nd T is built from the ground up, and the only parts from my 1st one are the radio gear, and throttle and brake linkage. I used some stock 2.5 parts, and selected aftermarket parts for weight, performance, and durabilty. Cheaper than buying RTR and then hopping-up, but not cheap.

i made my own sportmaxx, wasn't that hard. i only had to buy a chassis, tranny, and a few small misc parts. all the parts were from stuff i had hopped up on my t-maxx.
when i first made it-
