Since i'm planning on entering R/C Car Action's Speed Challenge this summer, I made a template file on excel for calculating gear ratios. Currently i've made one for an HPI RS4 1/2, Nitro TC3, and a Nitro 4-tec.

It only takes me about 10 minutes to fill out the whole chart for a car. I could make one for a monster truck, but it'd take awhile to calculate the drivetrain ratios, and the format would be a bit different.

I'd like to use this thread for requests for different cars. I've attached the files already made so you can check it out.

Feel free to ask any questions on how to use it. A lot of the stuff is designed for calculating custom gears, so it won't apply to most people.

edit: Below is a list of the one's i've done for ppl on this thread

Can do. I'm trying to find the drivetrain ratios for the car. Is the smaller pulley 16T? Also, I can't find the size of the diff pulley? It's part number "T0220"

The 1st pully is 16T and the second is 20T. The 1st gear is 47T & 2nd is 43T.

NCNitro, here you go. I did all the gear ratios I could find for the RS4 3. I wasn't sure what the gear options are for the 2-speed though. I could tweak it a little if you told me the exact gear sizes.

Dude, if you knew visual basic you could write a little EXE, make an info file for the ratios and sell the sucker on ebay.

lol, if only i knew how to program stuff. Ghetto fabulous excel works great, it just takes a little longer to calculate the stuff out.

Team 17, here ya go.

Ok, I know there will be some requests for an MT, so I will go ahead and ask for one for the savage. Here is some info that might help you out:

---The transmission ratio is (1.0)
---Gear chart if you need to look at one
http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/savagegears.jpg
---Stock Tire Diameter (150mm or 5.9")
---Stock S-25 engine specs: 2.5hp @ 29,000 RPM - Max RPM: 38,000

Hopefully that will be enough info for you.

i have been using a spreadsheet for years. it makes life easier when figuring out what gear ratio to use and calculate my rollout after a set of foams wears down after each heat during race days.

Okay, here's the file. I think I learned a lot after calculating it all out. But man, it was a bare. lol

You'll need to download winzip. Just goto www.winzip.com. It's a free program. If you still have trouble hit me up on aim (kwong3000) or msn ([email protected]) and i'll send you the excel file instead of the compressed version.

thanks kwong...going to winzip now

That worked...winzip did the trick!!!

Just for shits and giggles, I modified my template to suit my 1:1. It's only meant for calculating the changes to MPH through tires and RPM capabilities.
