Low End/Torque Pipe Questions

I race on a fairly tight technical track, with only one straightaway. So, I have been looking for a good low end torque pipe for my GS Storm, still running the stock motor, but will upgrade that in the future.

I have narrowed it down to 3 pipes (all 3 are around $40-60):
Fioroni MA03

Ofna 063

Racer's Edge 1/8 Torque Pipe

I haven't been able to find the Fioroni MA03 anywhere, anyone got any links?

Is there much difference between the 3 pipes? I've heard good things about all three pipes, just can't decide. Pros/Cons? Other pipes? I'm not worried about the Fioroni being a non-inline pipe, since I haven't had any problems w/ my current non-inline pipe.

I'm leaning towards the Fioroni and then the Ofna.

a low-end pipe is basically a low-end pipe. some will argue that one certain brand is better than another, but they are all designed to do the same thing. some are stronger than others due to the wall thickness.

I've been using rex/nova/top pipes for a while and just switched to the jammin jp-1 with great success. for a $70 pipe to hold up as well as it has been I'm very impressed. its way stronger than any other pipe I've ever used including the o.s. 2050.

if you could let go of another few bucks i think you would be glad you did.
 
I got my Jammin JP-1 for 55 shipped new at Flea Bay!! Check around there. I am very pleased with the results I get. I tried the 063 and 086 and I like em all.
 
What makes a pipe a low-end vs high-end pipe is it's shape and length. A short fat pipe give better low end whereas a long skinny pipe gives better high end. It has to do with the timing of the exhaust pulses that the engine creates. A long skinny pipe makes the pulse happen later and the fat pipe sooner.

I had an article somewhere that explained it in detail, but damned if I can find it for you.

I've seen the difference first hand. On my savage, it came with a composite skinny pipe. My low end was pretty lacking. I know this because I had taken the engine off my 21 maxx and installed it in my savage (long story). The pipe on my 21 maxx was an XTM 21 conversion pipe that came with the conversion kit. It's fatter in the middle. Now it runs a lot cooler and has more low end grunt. The difference was pretty evident. I'm guessing the reason it's cooler though is because I was trying to lean it out to get the performance I expected with the HPI pipe. Once I put the XTM pipe on, I richened it back up (which dropped the temps), but even with it richer, it had quite a bit more power.

Also.. there is a common misconception that a low end pipe will give you better low end.. but that is not the case, a low end pipe is designed for a motor with alot of torque.. and a high end pipe is designed for a high RPM motor.. the pulse of the exhaust and everything is dependent on that. So, by putting a low end pipe on your motor... you will not gain low end torque.. However, you could drop 1 tooth on your clutchbell to gain some bottom end grunt
 
Well, kinda.

A tuned pipe can't really give you MORE power out of your engine - it just helps shape the powerband of your engine. And it won't perform miracles, but it sure does help.

Of course, you will see more power being produced from your engine with a tuned pipe versus no pipe, or a very poorly designed pipe.
