What could I use to hear it up at home that would get it to run? I don’t want to have to order a charger. Would heating it with a lighter work?

No, it needs the heat in the coil the entire time your trying to start to ignite the fuel.

If your reaaaaaaaaally determined, you can use wire and a AA/C/D alkaline battery (C is better, D is best as glowplugs chew through alkaline cells fast). But getting something to stay on the pin on the glow plug will be hard. The negative wire can just be connected to the engine, like one of the mounting bolts. I just don't know how you can secure a piece of wire to the glow plug pin. Maybe with needle nose and one of those cheap banana connectors. Traxxas uses a spring type connector to the ezstart that you force over the glowplug pin and it just stays on there all the time.

I use AA type heaters with LSD NiMH 2000mah AA's and they hold up well. I can also charge the AA's in any general AA battery charger, and in a pinch, I can just buy some good alkalines.

Is there anything I could rig up at home that would do it till I get one? I have a race tonight

alligator clips with cover for the plug side then hook other clip to a head fin. use a esc plug to hook up 1 cell battery. whatever plug style you have handy

I had used a 3 volt transformer to charge my ni-cad battery before ,but you would have to take the battery out
of the unit to hold the wires on to the ends!

The end of the charger that fits into the igniter is an important piece ,so the battery has to come out if it is that type!

I had also did what I call ,battery zapping ,if the power supply exceeds past 3 volts ,it will fast charge the battery too
quick an over heat ,an can cause the battery to explode ,so I DONT RECOMEND IT!

That process involves in touching the wire of the power source in intervals of about 5 seconds ,or let off until the
battery becomes warm!

So I just was like hmm hiw to do this solar... an old garden decoration light charger, An RCA jack fits right into the end of my igniter and makes good contact, and a little heat shrink to prevent shorting and SHAZAAM! Brand new solar igniter charger. A couple of alligator clips and I could connect right to the glow plug. Eat your heart out McGuiver.
