Hi everyone!

Finally making the jump to truggy!

I am on the verge of ordering an 8ight t 2 RTR.

I am favoring this one as I only have Traxxas models for now, so adding the bump box and everything may push the bill a bit too far if I only go for the roller.

Quick question:
What Hop-ups would you recommend?
What are the differences between the RTR and the roller? Can you list part needed to be upgraded to reach Roller state?
Is the stock gearing OK? if not, what would you recommend. I am used to 16/36 on my revos and I love this combo with OS21. Good torque and more than decent top speed.
Currently using OS glowplugs (LongReach) will they fit the RTR engine?
Any special info about this truggy? (piece that may brake often etc...).

Also, is the embeded mill OK or should I plan for a quick replacement (thinking OS as I have had good times with os 21 in my traxxas trucks).

Finally, I felt in love with the mugen MBX 6 T, but my LHS has told me that finding parts may be a pain in the rear (I live in Canada). Anyone experienced owning this truggy?

Oh and BTW, my LHS is selling me the RTR 900CAD Good deal?

Thanks in advance for any reply!

The only thing I would recommend you change sooner rather than later would be the stock servos. They are barely strong enough to keep the rig going. Any RTR will be this way though since they need to cut prices somewhere to make it affordable. The RTR has a red ano chassis, race roller is a lightened chassis I believe. Plastic versus Aluminum on a few parts here and there. It's not too terribly far off from the race roller.....but it's a fair amount of $$$ to upgrade it to the race roller.

The stock engine will be just fine for awhile. It's a fuel hog though for sure. I have seen guys do very well with the RTR in stock trim at club races. They are competitive out of the box at the Sportsman level.

The MBX6T is a VERY nice rig. If you plan to race seriously....ditch the RTR and buy a kit built for racing. If you are just getting into it then the Losi kit is a GREAT way to go since everything you need is in the box minus fuel and a battery charger I believe. Great way to get setup with pretty decent hardware to go racing.

Just watch the servo adjustments on the Losi. They are known to be servo eaters if the alignment for the linkages isn't spot on.

I checked online at AMain and the RTR 8T 2.0 is 709.99. Multiply that by your currency exchange rate (x0.994:1) and your kit is 705.45. Almost 200.00 difference.
That said, subtract shipping cost and the difference I guess comes down to if you like those guys and don't want to wait for it to get there.

Thanks guys!
LBSinGTX, I would also have to add the sales tax in, and that's 16% in here...

Just checked with shipping + custom fee and it's a bit over 900... So I guess it'll be LHS :D

MotoGod, when you talk about servo adjustment, is it end points and such? I think I read previously that the chassis has some "bending" allowance and that should be taken into account. Never dealt with this kind of setup (all my other rigs are aluminium chassis, so very minimal bending).

Thanks for the tips guy... Unless I get crazy and go for Baja 5 SC (very sexy, but I can't figure out where I would ride this thing) it is on my order list for next week.

I you get the Losi feel free to hit me up, I've been running Losi since before they made 1/8 stuff. I know how to setup the servos so they last.

If you get the Losi....talk to neobart ;-) He can help you get the servos setup properly. I was referring to the linkages and such...not so much EPA, but that is very important as well.

Yup especially the linkages and some other little tricks that aren't in the manual.

Neobart, you have no clue what you've just proposed, I am anal retentive when it comes to tweaking ;)
Thanks a lot for the offer. I plan on ordering it this week. only drawback is that this is winter in here so no break-in before at least march/april (and that's if I can bring a block heater to do it the right way).
However, I'll take time to tear it appart and rebuild to learn the beast and use your advices.

First out of the box... I have been using Futaba servos on my Traxxas. Their brushless servos are really reliable and "STRONG". My racing Revo is single servo and snaps back center like it had never done with dual Hitec.
What would you recommend? I love the futabas even though they are on the pricey side (Last servo I had for my racing revo has been used for almost two seasons and still performing like a champ). Any alternatives would be great.
Also if you have modifications in mind for the linkage, and that involves exotic pieces, I'll use the remaining months (and monthly RC money allocations) to build it up. If you have time and energy to feed me towards the good stuff, it would be bliss!

Thanks again.
Quite new to this forum, and happy to meet you all guys!

Oh and BTW, sorry for my English, this is not my mother tongue... Not in any way retarted (at least not when I am sober) but may look like it when using english :D

First off, english is not my native language either.

About servos, I have no clue about Futaba servos I used a Hitec 5955TG on steering and a JR DS8611A for throttle. The JR was alright, just developed slop quickly. The Hitec is a tank, it has since been replaced by the 7955TG which is even better.
