Hey Guys,

I am looking to pick up a good electric MT. I am not looking to race, just bash, around the farm. I am looking at electric because it is cleaner and quieter than nitro, and I know my neighbors would appreciate it. LOL I have looked at the Emaxx and the electric savage, and so far that is the only two I have looked at that I consider "Good". So I guess with that I will turn it over to the experts here at RCNT to give their advice. Thanks

Tom

Personally, between the emaxx and esavage, I would stick with the emaxx. Hop-ups are plentiful since most parts are compatible the tmaxx and the layout is much nicer and easier to work on.

Thanks for the info Rob! I really appreciate it. So far, that is the way I am leaning... the Emaxx that is. I have a TMaxx and love it, but have never seen an Emaxx in action. Are there any drawbacks to the Emaxx? Are there any Kits out there? Thanks again my friend.

Tom

Electrics generally develop their full torque off the line. So it will reach its top end a bit quicker than a gas truck of the same size. Unfortunately, they usually don't have as high a top-speed. Hope that helps.:bunny:

Thanks for the Info Hamz! So... what I can take from this is that as far as electrics go.... the EMaxx is the best of the electric MT's? Thanks guys.

Tom

well, befor the e-savage the e-maxx was basicaly the only electric mt. the e-savage is a bit new and doesn't have the parts support, (hpi didnt make all the parts interchangable like traxxas did) i just got a e-maxx and I'm not much of a maxx guy but I'm impressed. i did a few key mods to make the drive train stronger but i dont plan on any high speed bashing so i left the suspension stock with the acception of dual rate springs for the added weight i will be putting on it.

here are some shots to drool over.

i can't vouch for the durability of it becaues i havent even drivin it yet. but i would think the e version would hold up better then the nitro version.

Sweet rides guys..... Rob... I do have a maxx with quite a few hopups on it... I could definitely get the emaxx and upgrade. I like the fact that alot of the maxx parts are interchangeable with the Emaxx. Sweet ride Rob!

Hey Beason... sweetride as well... Did you add the Revo Yokes or did the Emaxx come with those? Also what motor are you using? Thanks man.

Tom

you have to change the knuckles and turnbuckles when you go with revo shafts.

I'm running stock for now to get it going, if i need more power i may go with dual lath or dual dewalts. this will be more of a slow exporation rig as opposed to a high speed bash and jump rig.

I got my son an E-Maxx and other than the ESC shorting out (which was his fault, he ran it through a huge puddle) the thing has been excellent! I'm thinking of making it LiPO, just to get better run times out of it, but for now, I got him four 3300 NiMH packs that do the trick.

I have had a few electrics and the kyosho Twin Force was my favorite by far. You can buy it as a kit (thats what I had) or RTR, I have no idea what electronics come with the RTR version.

It's the same size as a nitro Savage, solid axles and a strong design, it's only weakness was the steering linkage which can be upgraded.

Just my 2 cents

If you have a T-Maxx with a bunch of hop-ups to the front and rear, you could get the emaxx chassis with tranny and attach the front and rear ends off the tmaxx. This is what I did.

Now why the hell didn't I ever think of that! That's a great project for me! Hmmm.. I'll keep that idea on the back burner for now.. :)

*edit* I'm such a dipstick.. I've even posted in that thread... LOL!

Thanks for the info Monkey Man! My hopes is to have something else that my Stepson can move into once he is done with his 18B.

Smaxxin... the madforce is a sweet ride. I have been looking at that as well. Thing is... my LHS said Kyosho will no longer deal with them. My guess is that they don't sell and or carry enough inventory. They do stock Traxxas stuff out of the ying yang though... The fact that it is available as a kit is appealing though. Nice rig ya got there too!

I am kinda torn at this point. I am in need of yet another project.... I have been bitten by the bug and have it bad my friends. I am afraid the cure involves a labotamy... or loss of job\and or wife.... of which neither of those solutions are acceptable. So I must feed the need, and a brushless MT sounds like a fun project! Thanks again guys.

Tom

Well the CEO (Wife) approved the aquisition of equipment needed to complete the Brushless EMaxx project. I should have everything I need to start this project in a few weeks. Whoot! I am starting with the EMaxx of course.... then a Novak HV Maxx 6.5 system, a couple of 4200 NiMh packs, RRP 72 tooth spur and double slipper setup, Heat Sinc motor mount, and a New Era wheelie bar. This is just a start. Can you guys recommend the next round of hopups? Thanks guys.

The Emaxx is a great choice!

Now I'm not going to lie, working on a Tmaxx/Emaxx is a nightmare in my books. My first mods was to make working on the truck easier since me and my son are not easy drivers. So I installed some: aluminum bluks, aluminum shock towers, hing pins, CVDs and a hex screw set. The truck is 10 times easier to work on than my stock Tmaxx and stronger. My last mod was to install a hardcore skid plate. Now the truck is indestructable...close enough. The remaining parts like A-arms and turn buckles are stock but those are dirt cheap to replace. I jump the hell out of this truck and have only broke an A-arm once....keep in mind this truck takes a beating from my 4yr old(now 5yrs old) as well as me. Also, all my aftermarket parts are off brand parts I found on Ebay. My CVDS are not MVPs etc. So the build cost was dirt cheap.

Future mod: Brushless Novak system.

Now you say that working on the Emaxx is a nightmare... how so? I could use all the tips I can get my hands on. Thanks

Tom

Phillips screws:nono:

I'm not sure why they did it but they make it a nightmare. They tend to strip out easier than hex screws and bend more. So I bought a hex screw kit and parts that would help elminate phillip screws. This made the truck much easier to work on...it also made the truck stronger. You see the main weakness of the T/Emaxx is the bulks. So by switching to aluminum bulks, I made the truck stronger as well as easier to work on. Also, the stock a-arm screws always get bent up...the heng pins that come with the alum bulks are stronger and much easier to remove. Now the truck is easier to work on and my main weakness is a-arms. Those things are dirt cheap and pretty easy with my mods to replace. That is mainly why I used CVDs, it makes replaceing a-arms easier...they're also stronger than stock shafts which are also a PITA to replace. Just try and pop on a new shaft to a U-joint...it's loads of fun.

Thanks for the info. I have in fact ordered a screw kit for the emaxx. I have not replaced the bulkheads yet, but everything else you talked about is on its way out. I agree with you, I don't know why they put phillips head screws in a vehicle that will need to be worked on. Doesn't make any since! LOL Thanks for the info my friend.

Tom

the only reason why i can think that they put phillips screws in r/c is a price thing

cuz then hex screws they have to be exactlly the right size. for a phillips screw the slots only have to be close for you to get a screw driver in there to screw it in

Good point..... I am sure its a cost thing... I mean why else would they do it? I was going to start the rebuild this weekend, but now will wait until the screw kit gets here so I can do this "right" LOL thanks my friend.
