I learned on a 1978 Honda CB750 when I was 21. Since then I've had:

1999 Honda CBR600F4 (after 4 years of riding the CB750)
2000 Honda CBR929
2003 Aprilia Falco (nut banger if you're under 5'10)
2004 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide
2008 Harley Davidson Night Train

Get an old Japanese bike that you don't mind dumping. Get a very good helmet. Make sure it fits. Go to a shop and get fitted. You don't need to buy it from the shop that fits you. Ge the best fiit for you and shop around. DON"T get a used helmet on EBAY. You have no idea what it's been through.

i learned on a 79 harley sporty with a four speed if you like harley i would recommend the 883 sporty can find nice used ones out there and its not really the size of the bike its how smart you ride the thing if you have a big bike respect the bike and the power it has dont show off for your friends and try to be cool thats your first mistake right there now your bound to mess up cause you got it in your head that your a hot shot and unstoppable, well you may be a hot shot but all it will take is the blink of an eye over correction and guess what your stoppable either that car you didnt see or the ground your hitting just made you stop so your choice enjoy the riding be safe

Well guys just for an update, It's a week and a day until I start my class for this. I have already bought a Helmet, Leather Jacket and riding gloves. I knew from the start not to buy a skull cap, plus it's illegal in the state of Washington. I went and got fitted at a shop and bought a DOT approved helmet that fits me well. I've been looking at a lot of Honda and Yamaha bikes and found a couple i like i just haven't bought anything yet and i wont until I take my class.

Also, does anyone know anything about Hyosung? I have a motorcycle shop near me that only sells Hyosung's and has some very nice looking bikes.

ask your self what you want in a motorcycle (track, travel, touring, bar hopper), then narrow the field down to the top 4 or 5 bike's that fall into that group and start doing your homework on them go on motorcycle forums and ask questions. also when you ride always think 6 to 10sec ahead and as if the rest of the cars on the road dont see you! As far as getting a used bike thats up to you. I would stay away from another persons step up bike.

Suzuki savage. Its a single cylinder 650cc harley wanna bee. Actually sounds pretty cool w a decent exhaust on it. Its small enough for you to toss around as a first bike..... but big enough to get you down the road a couple years without outgrowing it (like you will with a 250cc ect)

BTW where the hell is my battery charger!!
