LC Racing EMB 1H compared to MTH questions

For this guy I’d probably say so, the SCY is definitely budget oriented. Under $100 this has got to be the best…

Aha! Thanks for the info. I looked into using 1/10 on road shocks but never could determine if it would have enough travel. Jennys says the linked shocks are 70mm? That would be even better. I may go for those vendetta shocks if they are 70mm, if I assume it will chassis slap then there are two other main concerns- would it clear the arms? The lower shock rod end is captured and can’t be stood off. And I would also need a bushing of some sort to make the mounting hole m2.5 instead of m3. Still a good idea to look into!
I’m going to give those a look, I have honestly never heard of those. I have the LC12b1 and it’s a great, great car.

Oh where do you get these SCY’s?

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll check those cars out. At this point, I'm kind of just keeping an eye on the used market for a sub $200 merv, summit or emb. If I can remember, I'll check on ali periodically for a sale. Derbycity vids are pretty entertaining and I got a pretty favorable impression of the hbx line from him but they don't have something the right size w/o having to mod or upgrade. Will poke around at the scy stuff, too.
I’ve seen that at riptide rc there is a long wheelbase chassis LC for $179 USD, which is a good deal too. From there you can decide what car you want it to be with little effort and not much more cash

1. Download aliexpress app and make account
2. Search for “SCY 16102 pro” and similar terms and click on some of the listings and browse
3. Periodically check prices until the start of the next month (or sale, whichever comes first- sales can happen on the week of the 15th as well) when choice day happens (for 5 days starting on the 1st). Aliexpress will happily show you great prices on these down to about $70 USD. (Many found 71-72)
4. Add one of them to cart and use the $8 off coupon found on the home page.
Done!

Checked out the scy. Too small.

What are you guys’ thoughts on mjx 14210. Leaning toward that little monster now. Good review by quadify. Wheel base very close to merv. Maybe not quite as fast but where I’ll be running that won’t matter. $120 on ali with 2 batteries.

i wouldn't! The MJX 14210 is much worse than the SCY. It’s just that SCY doesn’t send out free cars, so not many talk about them. I’m glad you are looking at Ali for the decent $120 price but the MJX isn’t really 1/14 scale, it’s just a longer 1/16. Same width. The SCY 1/16 and MJX 1/14 are practically the same size.

Derby City does a hop up video on it where they claim its wheelbase is too small and its narrow. Rex had a lot of good things to say about it too, but the same size/speed handling issues were a "con" on his list too.
I didn't see lots of ppl talking about long term durability. This makes me wonder who might be getting paid for their "positive influences" on some of these kits and maybe even got them free from the company direct. Who knows?
I guess it comes down to what you are really looking to get out of this car.
If you want something thats budget friendly that you don't want to upgrade much, maybe this is the way to go.
Parts availability would be my first concern. I do not know if they are actually availible or not. Have you looked into parts like A-arms and C-hubs for instance? They are common "easy break" items.
Check Derby City's vid. See if his parts list is still avail and if its something you'd consider in case this car does end up on its roof more than you'd like.
The radio systems in all of these class of car require an esc/receiver (servo if 5 wires) when doing a motor or esc upgrade or if you end up frying the stockers. A hobbywing combo and flysky radio will be a likely the cheapest way out.
I have already explained my experience with a "budget" DeeRC 200e. It CAN be done but there has been a ton of tinkering and I've spent more $ than what most ppl would consider reasonable for this grade of car to get it to where it is.
I can't spend your money for you but I would still be thinking an Arrma Gorgon at this price point. The Gorgon still requires a radio upgrade at time of esc/motor fyi. I would say that the stock brushed system will require upgrading somewhat soon just because its brushed.
A lot of Arrma parts and upgrades can be purchased at Jennysrc.com . They also sell the stuff you want to buy to upgrade your Arrma car for REAL cheap! (They still don't have the actual Gorgon parts. Think 3s parts upgrades!)
Maybe hop over there and look around too???

I own a Gorgon and I like I so much the way it came stock, (On 2s lipo) that I am considering buying another to upgrade rather than breaking this one up.
I REALLY have fun driving it the way it came out of the box. Just checked torque on some screws so far. I haven't even adjusted the suspension yet.
If size really just kills the Gorgon, I'd head back to the LC Racing I think.
R/C cars come down to "pay more up front for a LOT more happiness down the road" in terms of quality construction, materials and design.
Unfortunately, somewhere, something has to give.
I can say confidently that no matter how good this car is, it would still be considered "entry level" at best.
I think you'll be likey to find the extent of its upgradability quickly based on my experience with the DeeRC.
I didn't see any aftermarket parts popping up when I did a quick search.
I think you'll be wanting a "better" car pretty soon if you go the MJX route.

Well, i appreciate you guys input, but I’m going ahead with this one. Already have a dx3s with a couple of receivers so if the motor craps out I’ll only need speed controller and motor. Derby city reviews seemed good to me, apart from track width . Car and 2 batteries for 128 total. Meanwhile still keeping an eye out for used lc racing or merv. Thanks for your input! Will let you know his it goes 😁

We have a Hypergo 1/14 H16 whatever that is the brushed version. My son beats the crap out of it, all I replaced was the driveshafts/ universals using the ones from the brushless version (h16bm), and some body mounts. It’s pretty fast for a brushed car. He also busted up a wheel, but I imagine he ran into something.
I don’t care for the hardware, it is most likely JIS, but a Phillips works. The thread pitch is also different from most metric hardware, it’s a course thread.

Correction, it’s a 1/16 scale

Decent choice but there is no reason to pick it over the SCY, unless you think the minor parts support difference is important :)
Not ragging on your hyper go. But you probably paid the price of a brushless SCY for the brushed hyper go anyways

It’s what my son wanted, it was $100 and he had $100. I tried getting him to save up for something better.
Looking around for this SCY, I dont see any vendor that seems legit. How do I know that if i click the purchase button and give up my card info that I will get the product I ordered and keep my bank account safe?

So you can overpay Suchiyu.com directly for the cars but I wouldn't recommend it. I think I may have put a step by step in the thread but basically get the aliexpress app, search SCY 16102 pro and pick the cheapest listing with the "choice" label. Choice means free shipping and covered by Ali in the event something goes wrong. I always pick the cheapest listing and have bought 100s of items and never been scammed, but if you are worried the rule of thumb is that if the seller has 95% positive review or more is it safe.

I went back and read! Thanks for the info. I have never shopped aliexpress.

Forgot to mention previously that quadifyrc’s review of the 14210 was quite positive. I think he said it was his favorite of 2023 even after a month of running it. Wondering if you guys opinion is based on the v1. Track width is still a bit narrow but other weak points were fixed in v2

You should have some fun with it. It's not bad, just overpriced for the bad handling

Really? $100 worth of difference in the handling? Lol! Seriously, though, because i honestly do appreciate your input, have you had hands on the v2 or are your thoughts based on the older one? Also, i find it encouraging that they are making improvements. 🤞

Yeah I had the h14bm off Amazon which before the v2 BM was the equivalent of the 14210 v2 Sent it back because it still couldn’t chassis slap in the front which makes the rear kick up when you land, much prefer the SCY and would take an SCY over the 14210 v2 if they were both free. The v2 is the one most people have on YT, btw

Regardless if you are a newbie you’ll have fun. If you’ve had a better car, the delay in the ESC and the bad steering and flipping over will get you fed up

I can't even get aliexpress to change languages or show price in USD. I'm sure its all about the VPN and such but its annoying as heck so I don't shop there.
If they had an app that I could d/l outside of google play, I might try that but I'll likely never know. (unless I learn how to speak Hungarian)

I am getting annoyed with my DeeRC. I keep spitting spur gears. Its the worst design ever so I'm not surprised that this is happening OTHER THAN the fact that the car ran fine for months before this.
I'm going to pull the trigger on a pile of gears and parts.
This thing is either gonna run or its headed to the shelf but I'm thru with 2 hours of work for 3 mins of run time.
The most annoying part if this now is the time and $ spent to get it all working nice, then the damned gears. Lol!

I might be replacing the whole car now. 😤

I have a set of metal gears in it now. Clock is ticking.

Maybe the 3800kv is too much???🤔

1-800-CHINA-PARTS!!!

I purchased one of these SCY’s….. I am not impressed. Cheap cast metal, 2in1 brushless ESC, brushless motor that gets pretty hot, a tiny battery compartment, horrible shocks, orange loctite used on some screws in metal but not all, crappy tires, horrible radio system. Gear mesh at the pinion and spur is too tight. The good news is, all of these issues can be fixed, minus the gear mesh not being adjustable.
That’s my real life review. @Glitch don’t be pushing your SCY stuff anymore, they are not that good.
Hypergo all day long for the price. Better build quality, even in the brushed version.
