Hello, i'm new to this forum and i need help.
I have a WLToys 979-B which is a solid RC car, but i started to have problems with it. And it's lack of power.
I don't know what it could be it was running really well until, one day i wanted to play with it. I saw that the car was going way much slower?
Could it be that the battery is dying or the ESC from overheat? I might think it's the battery since i charge it every time i'm done driving my rc. I don't know i might be wrong.
I'll see if it's the ESC, once i get one for my other RC car.

Its really hard to say without having some other parts to test with. Could be if your using NiXX packs that they are going bad or developing battery memory if they are NiCDs. Could be you over heated and damaged the motor. Do you periodically check your ESC/Motor temps when you are running this?

Yes, i do check the tempetures of the ESC and motor every time i'm done using it. If they are hot i let it cool down, same with the battery.

What temps did you usually see on them and what are the max temps youve seen on them recently? Are you using NiXX packs and if so NiMH or NiCD?

I don't have a really accurate way of seeing what temps it had, cause i don't have a temp gun to check. I usually hold the battery in my hand and the temp is always the same after running it. And no i'm not using NiXX packs, i'm just using a 7.4V 1500mAH LiPo battery that already came with the RC car in the box.

does the lipo have any puffiness in it? Its really hard to say without being able to see it and tinker with it but if I had to guess Id say that its probably a damaged lipo or a damaged motor. The problem with the WLToys stuff is its kinda half way between toy grade and hobby grade. Is it possible to get replacement parts under warranty?

Is it making any weird or unusual noises that it wasn't making before?

The LiPo doesn't look like it is puffed, it's in the same form. And no it doesn't make any sort of sound while in use. But i do see a date on the battery that is 2020.07.07, i'm not really sure if that's the date when it was made or the date it's gonna expire? Problaly not, all i know that they can loose performance after some excessive use, maybe it's because of that? But yeah, it's really hard to tell if it's the motor or not since i can't test it on a other RC car since i'm waiting on a new ESC for it. And yes i can agree on WLToys being between toy grade and hobby grade, it's still fun to mess around with them.
Another thing i forgot to mention it might be easy to tell if it's the motor or the battery, cause the A979-B has a 540 brushed motor and my WLToys 12428 has the same motor as the A979-B. When the ESC arrives for it i'm definitely gonna check it out.

they dont put expiration dates on lipo batteries. Id guess that brushed motor is about done .its a sealed can so you can not rebuild it.ie new brushes cut commutator all 1 can do is replace motor

Right, that's a bit of a bummer. Atleast the 540 brushed motors are pretty cheap so i might just buy a new one.

I'm guessing its the motor but thats really just a guess. Its good that you have another ki5t you can test with. That will help you get it sorted fo sho :)

Just gave it a small run test without the body, and here's some results: the RC car shut off 2 times, and then when i gave it max throttle and let go it was going max throttle for 1 second and then stopped, and when i let it cool down for a bit it stopped doing the throttle delay. So i'm kinda thinking that the ESC might be playing up and not the motor, not sure though.
And by "throttle delay" i mean, when i floor it and let go it still accelerates for 1 second and then slows down.

a going bad brushed motor will not make a esc delay that long. after last post id go to esc.
