Hi

I,ve been looking through the threads on engine temps, ranging from 220 -280 degrees. Whats right, i've been keeping mine to around the 210 -220 mark (picco p7r), is this to rich or ok?

220-280 is correct, anywhere in there is where you want to be. Tune your engine so it runs good then check the temparature to make sure you are not over where you should be.

280 would be a little high for most engines...I shut mine down immediatly if I see 260 or up

Most .12 engines will perform best in the upper two hundreds.
.21's should really stay below 260 in my opinion.

You shouldn't be tuning for temps anyway. You should make sure you have a good plume of smoke at takeoff and you should still be seeing smoke at wot (not as much as takeoff). With that in mind you also want to tune for power, low end you want it to be punchy and not groggy but youstill want smoke. Same for the high end make sure you are not bogging down up top, while maintaining a nice trail of smoke. Then check the temps after running a while and thats where your optimum running temp for your engine is.

Do you run out of smoke near wot? if you do you are too lean. If you do not I would say your too rich. There is a thin line between dead on and lean so you have to be careful. I try to run a tad on the rich side just to cover my butt.

I dont know i can't get to wot. I pull Wot but when i reach a certain rpm it bogs and it drives like I'm only pulling half throttle.

Sounds like you have an air leak.

Your running the 8 port correct? Whether or not you are makes no difference to this....take the mill out of your ride and seal it up with some high temp rtv sealant. I know its a pain in the ass because you ahve to take it out of the car, but believe me it will be worth it. I ran the 8 port for a while last year and had all kinds of tuning problems. Just put enough to seal on the carb where it meets the crank case, and do the same for the backplate. Once this is done try it again. Sounds to me like you are too lean, so give it a slight turn and go from there until you get it right.

I took off the pullstart and added a plate because i use a starter box. Could this be part of the problem? MAybe i didnt tighten it all the way? Were do you get the high temp sealant? Thanks..
