Hi everybody! My buddy bought a Associated MGT and after bashing that around for a few hours I just had to get my own truck. Well I did some research and decided to get a T-Maxx. I found one on ebay and bought it today. I think I got a good deal. What do y'all think? here's the url http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5941211761&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
Anywhoo I can't wait to get this and start terrorizing the construction sites around here :) . So are there any basics I need to know about this truck? Is there a FAQ somewhere I could read? This is my first nitro truck but I have been doing Nitro/Electric boats and electric cars for more than 15 years now so I'm not new to R/C. All help would be greatly apreciated. Later

that looks like a nice truck you got.. id say first check all the screws if there tight or missing.... far as a faq if you do a search for tmaxx you should get some good info

good luck

Looks good. Nitro MT's are loads of entertainment. Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

so are buggys!!!!! especially if you drive them like i do! hahaha

also, congrats on ur new truck man, i have one as well, trying to throw in a Sirio .18.

Since the sirio 18 is discontinued, I'd suggest the OS 18.

First things first. If you decide you need more power, I suggest you get a MT that can handle a 21 right off the bat without modifications or upgrades. You can try a decent 18 engine, but if your still not content, look elsewhere for a 1/8 truck.

As for what you should do first on the maxx, get a center skid and a FOC (forward only conversion) to get rid of reverse. The center skid helps protect stuff and gives the chassis a little more strength.

There's a buttload of info on this forum for the maxx. When in doubt, do a few searches.

at towerhobbies they show a discontinued sirio .18 but then they also show a sirio .18 thats still for sale?

I'm pretty sure that's the old sirio for the old original 15 maxx. Has a different crank shaft, exhaust mount and carb type.

Well, I just looked, it's the rotary carb and standard crank unlike the 2.5 engine.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to learning more and running the heck out of this thing. It has an aftermarket chassis. Do I still need the center skid plate or is that only with the stock chassis? I kinda like the idea of having reverse since I'm not racing. Is it a huge upgrade to remove it? Does it make it a lot faster or something? Thanks again. Later...

replace those stock shocks they suck get some traxxas big bore shocks..or the hot bodies w/trinty duel rate springs and 30wt# oil

Well, the center skid gives the chassis more support but it also protects your trans for getting crap smashed into it.

As for the FOC, it just helps the trans gears and diff gears last longer. With reverse, the truck lurches until the trans gets enough speed to engage. This slams on the gears. The FOC gets rid of the lurch and makes take off a lot smoother. As for it being a pain, that all depends. You have to pull off the trans and take it apart. Takes about 20 minutes for a seasoned maxxer and maybe 40 minutes for a newer person.

Yeah 10-20 minutes, Depends what tool set you have... But I didnt know that the Sirio was discontinued. I have it at my LHS. But i am looking into the O.S. Is it nice? And i know by O.S. that is easy to tune and reliable. Later

BTW, Looking at close detail to those pics, The Airfilter seems very mangled, Pick up a nice Motorsavers. Very good Airfilter.

Will do for sure, For xmas I'm asking my parents for a Digital Camera, Goodbye ol' Webcam! So now i'll have tons of pics in my gallery. haha

I am going to do the FOC finally. Does the FOC kit come with directions? What else is recommended that I should do to the tranny?

Jon2; Yes, The FOC comes with a good set of instructions, pictures and all. It's a simple task, but takes some time.

Mr Nice Guy, welcome to RCNT, all the suggestions from above are good ones. My suggestion would be a bit different. Don't buy or mod anything unless it breaks until you have put 1.5 - 2 gallons through her. By that time you will have a feel for what you are gonna want to do with the truck. You will also have spent a month or so reading this board and have a good feel for what mods/hop-ups are right for you.

Mr. T is right....
the only thing I would change before then is the control Arms....get the RPMs as they are guaranteed for life....after that just beat the snot out of it however you see fit and eventually you will have broken the whole truck and have enough spare parts to build 3 of them (like I did). and then you're gonna want more power and you will have to get a .21 conversion kit (like I did). Then all of your friend will be jealous of your awsome ass kicking Custom T-maxx and want to kick your ass (like mine all did)...But then the fun is just starting cause the cycle will start All over again and you will be forever addicted to monster trucks and dream of getting off of work so you can play with your toys and then your boss will fire you for not working and you won't be able to fund your addiction anymore and you'll find yourself on street corners at 2 A.M. selling your shoes for some money to buy Nitro Fuel and the Cops will arrest you for loitering at the grocery Store parking lots late at nite pretending to play with your RCs because you can't afford to go to the track and all your friends won't hang out with you cause you will be begging them for parts and such.........AHHH why did we all get into this again....
anyway I've done 5 almost 6 complete T-maxx setups in the last 6 months and know that critter inside and out....if you need help just ask!!!! I get really good answers (unlike my ranting ones) from everyone here...oh yeah I'd change the shocks on that bugger too...

That 2.5 is a real screamer and a lot of fun. But when I takes a crap (around gallon 5) just toss it. It's not worth fixing.

tips

it has stock collin head, servos, and filter. That shout be changed. Olso i can't tell if it does or doesn't, but it needs a fuel filter. Um bat that was a nice deal you got there. Nice bulkheads, body mounts are good. Great job!

Thanks Mt TMAXX! ANy recommendations on what to strengthen? RPM arms and CVD's already and the SIRIO 23

Yeah, i have a T-maxx 2.5 that i got for christmas last year. The break in was pretty simple and it ran good, but it ran hot. i switched to the ACNC enormous head, and it helped a lot. Also, switching to a lower profile fuel tank helps a lot too. Anyway, the first actual run i had with it is when i jumped it for the first time. The rear bulkhead snapped and the chassis braces snapped and the rear skid plate snapped. The only thing holding the rear end on was the EZ Start wires. It was really a hilarious break, as with all of my driving. I am in the process of totally rebuilding my maxx with almost everything i can find. This includes a New Era extended chassis with the 4-point braces and the extended center skid, Integy msr5 shocks, which i have to say, are sooo much smoother than stock. I also have the FastLane bulkless setup, which is super strong and only costs $120! It has RRP gears everywhere i could put them (diffs, Tranny). I am going to buy a Sirio .27 Racer for this beast, should be here before christmas! :-) i will let you guys know how that goes...
