1) Fuel sent

Ok i have been using traxxas top fuel for as long as i have been in the hobby. I just ran a tank of oddonel. The odonnel smells different than the top fuel when burnned. It is both 20%. Why is this?

2) Leak

Ok i hads a leak on my savage. It was my first run with my brand new nova cooling head. The head was actually leaking. Right where the head and the top of the engine block meet. Can i put some rtv on there? If not what do i do?

Did you remember to put the shims back in?

Just because the fuels are both 20% doesn't mean they are using the same kind/mfr of oils/methanal/nitro. I thought the odonnel smelled like gunpowder after shooting a gun. Trinity fuel just stinks and burns your eyes.

RTV isn't a good idea at the head. I'd take it off and try to figure out if you forgot to put the head shim back in or if you have some dirt on the seat somwhere. Clean it off, then when you tighten the head bolts, do them in an X pattern to get the head tightened evenly.

Ya the odonnel smells just like gun powder. I have never smelled a gun but to me it smells like a fire cracker. I have both head shims in. It is still leaking. I took the head off and did an x- pattern. It sucks because the car will not run with the head leaking i will take it off again. Could i possibly have the wrong shim? I just got one out of my box.

Don't know. Maybe.

Just take it apart and see how the shim(s) line up. Check for any debris on the contact points where the head meets the crank case.

When you took off the head you could have bent the shims some. This could cause a bad seal, I would try getting some new shims and try that.

A couple weekends ago I ran with SKIP and some other guys who normally run Trinity. They said my Odonnell smelled like vinegar.

Do as Olds suggested. Remove the head and clean and check for debris. When you reinstall the head, press it firmly against the block, totally flat, then spin the screws only finger tight. Then start the x pattern, just a little each time. I find that if I do it that way, and go around 5 or 6 times before they are completely tight, there's no way it can't seat flat.

I took off 1 shim. Could it possibly be i need all 3 for the nova. I will pick up some shims!
