I just got a new jato yesterday and the 3.3 motor broke the rod on the 9th tank. So i was wondering about the picco .26 Since this motor is a direct replacement for the tmaxx, i was wondering if it would work on the jato. I'm not really interested in fixing the 3.3 because this is the second motor i have had to break the rod. I also called traxxas and they wouldn't replace it. Thanks in advance.

I personally wouldn't put a .26 on a jato, too small of a rig+too big of an engine= lots of broken parts, Just my opinion you can do what you want, but i have a picco .26 maxx on my revo and its real quick with it and almost to the point of not wanting to settle down on the front end, it grabs 2nd gear and lifts the front wheels off the ground a little bit, i could only imagine what kind of sick ridiculous power it would have on a Jato

What would you reccomend? I want something thats little more powerful than the 3.3 but not so powerful that i can't drive it. I want to a motor thats good for both top end and torqe. Was i right about it having the same dimensions as the 3.3?

either and OS 18 or if you want a bb go with a OS .21 tm.you will be very happy with it

would the .21 bb fall in or would i need a comversion kit. Also is the .18 more powerful than the 3.n

The OS18TZ is pretty close to the power of the 3.3, but the torque curve is better and drop off isn't as severe as the 3.3.

I don't think there's a "drop in" mid-block that will work in the jato. All the ones that go in the maxx/revo come with a special mount for each truck. Neither of which will work in a jato.

Stop running the engines too rich and pushing them too hard too soon during breakin. That's why you are breaking rods. DON'T use Traxxas fuel either. That's part of the problem. No engine breaks in fully until it has at least 3/4 a gallon on it. You can rev them out some but don't let the engine have a rich bog EVER. Fuel does not compress, air does. Don't be afraid too lean the 3.3's out during breakin.
The O.S. 21 TM should bolt in no problem. It breaks in easy with some preheating and the needles are set perfect for break in.

With a 3.3 the Jato is overpowered. It doesn't really need a big block. I would go with one of the OS .18s. Like Olds said, they have a better power curve and are easier to tune and to keep in tune.

The 21 TM is smoother than the 3.3, and actually a little slower on top end vs. a 3.3. So I think it would be a good reliable choice....with a few lead weights on the front end of course!

Sorry for the typos earlier, and thanks for helping me, I didn't run the 3.3 rich nor did i run it lean. I know about tuning and i believe I'm ok at it. What overall motor would be reccommended considering i dont want to lose any power and gain a little more. Also what mod would have to be done for that motor to work. thanks and sorry for all the questions

Nothing, that engine bolts right in where a 3.3 does. Trust me it's fast and tunes great. It will boil the tires off the Jato and wheelie on demand. It has more torque than the 3.3's do, you could easily go up one or two teeth on the CB and still have awesome acceleration.

Not always. Higher RPM only means higher peak RPM. If the engine doesn't have enough torque to move the vehicle well, higher RPM's are never reached.

More torque means you can use taller gears to get more speed out of it but still have enough torque down low to get you off the line easy.

The Exhaust manifold is the only thing I see maybe being an issue. The 21TM comes with either a Revo or T-Maxx style header that attaches via a spring. I'm sure there is a spring type header out there for the Jato, found one!
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUAB2&P=ML This a great exhaust company. It seals WAY better than the Traxxas stock crap, it also will not crack like Traxxas bolt on headers do.
