The photo is an illusion. They are not that big compared to the guy's leg in the background. Look at the hand of the guy holding them.

those are camel spiders and they are a big damn spider those are probably close to four inches a piece(body that is). I'm curently working on my third deployment and in the summer you will see them from time to time. those two are the biggest I've seen. the smallest I've ever seen was a little bit bigger than a ciggarete box.(legs included) but never that big. those things are tough as hell. I've kicked one a good a good twenty feet across the flightline olny to watch it haul ass like nothing happened. man i could go on & on about these things. one last thing though,we call it a cammel spider, but if you count the legs you will end up with ten. they dont walk with the front ones, they use em like arms.
