Now I'm a bit more confident driving the HBX 16889 I thought I'd raid the junk pile in the garage to make a ramp. Turns out old deck chairs are perfect, with adjustment built in too. A piece of polycarbonate which had been lying around in the garden for years didn't even need cutting to fit.
First (and only) jump landed perfectly but unfortunately broke one of the front stock plastic shocks. In retrospect this was always going to happen, as they're not actually shocks at all (no oil) and the springs are quite soft. I've epoxied it back together just to keep me running until the proper metal oil filled ones arrive from China (should be any day now. They should really come with these fitted as standard, but I guess the money is in the 'upgrades' which is why they sell so cheap.
Talking of cheap, another source of shock oil is sold as 'treadmill oil'. It's pure silicone and usually around 30w. I got 250ml for less than half the price of the small bottles in hobby shops!
